    Hello IdiAminDada!

What happens when you try to install from CD, do you get any error messages? Also check that the disks are not scratched or dirty, as this will stop them from being read by the optical drive.

Sounds as if XP can't install correctly because the CD is scratched. Can you borrow a friends copy of XP disk? If not, you may need to see if you can purchase one. Then use your product key to install.

Did you try cleaning the disk ? I just use handsoap and water and a very soft cloth. Do not insert until completely dry.

A friend once had Windows displaying about hal.dll missing. I removed his hard drive & connected it to my PC (via a USB caddy) and copied & pasted it from mine into his System32 folder. When I replaced his hard drive, WIndows booted ok.

A bit of a pain, but it worked....!

A Google search on Missing Hal.dll returns a lot of information, so much that it is useless.

I cannot remove a HD from a laptop.

I changed the boot option in Bios to CD-ROM/DVD drive - and now a very short message (less than 1 second) says: invalid Boot.ini

Perhaps there is a bootup USB that I could download to my Mac from Internet and then start the Acer Laptop ?

Perhaps the problem may lie with your optical drive, and not the disk. The only option would be to buy or borrow a USB Optical drive and boot from that, or perhaps take it to your local repair shop to see if they can replace the drive.
