Acer 1775-Audio dropouts Issue with Onkyo AV receiver, should I switch to Bluetooth for better sound?

Just got an Acer 1775. It's connected to a Sharp TV via HDMI and an Onkyo AV receiver, also by HDMI. (I tried using the headphone output to optical input on the AV, as I did with my old mini-Mac, but that didn't work at all.) Now and then I get audio dropouts when listening through the AV, but never on the TV. If I turn the AV off, then back on, there is no audio at all. (Only way to get it back is to refresh the page.) A quick search showed that dropouts seem to be common with Windows 11. Does this sound like a problem with Windows, the Acer, or the AV? (Tried connecting the Mac to the AV with the HDMI, and that worked fine.) I see the newer AVs have Bluetooth. Would it work better with a new AV, and connecting with BT? Guess then, I could listen to audio from my phone if I still have problems with the computer.

I don’t know which exact Onkyo AV receiver model you have but you need to connect a normal set of headphone to the Onkyo AV receiver, DO NOT use the “headphone output to optical input on the AV” use the Onkyo AV receiver LINE OUT Left /Right or PRE OUT plugs. Also buy a good headphone like the reasonably priced Sennheiser RS 120-W that is not a Bluetooth headphone and connects its cables straight to the Onkyo AV receiver. I’ve been using the older model of the RS120 the TR120 for 10 years on an old smartTV that doesn’t have Bluetooth and its been working faultlessly, just had to change the rechargeable batteries after 8 years😁 so try doing that if you don’t want to buy a new Onkyo AV receiver with Bluetooth. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

My Onkyo is a RC-799M. Where on the Acer do I connect the line out cables? Only plugs on the Acer are the blue, green, and red ones, but those cables don't quite fit those inputs. Do I need a special cable for that?

The TC-1775 desktops back panel Green plug is the Line-out jack - Accepts audio line-out device like a headphone

Thanks. Before I posted this, I ordered a 3.5mm-USB cable. (Have a USB on front of AVR.) Didn't get it yet, don't know if that'll work. Then I remembered I have a 3.5mm-RCA cable from my video camera. Tried it from the headphone jack, and it worked — though the audio level and quality is lower. Then got your post and plugged it in the green hole. Audio seems a bit better than headphones, but not as good as HDMI. So far, haven't had dropouts, but haven't listened very long.
