Fan noise too loud when doing some tasks Aspire XC-1780

Hi all,

I've got an Aspire XC-1780 desktop and I've noticed that, while doing certain tasks, the fan gets really noisy and loud. It stays that way while performing that specific task and gets back to normal (pretty quiet) when the task is done.

I've noticed this especially while converting videos between formats, and when exporting a video from Adobe Premiere. For instance, I've just exported a video from Premiere, the task has taken around an hour to complete, and all the while the fan has been really noisy. When it was over, the noise (and its rpm, I suppose) got back to normal.

Is this normal behaviour? Should I be concerned? My desktop is fairly new (got it in late November 24), and it's always been like this.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Be sure that it's not dirty or hitting an object.

If all clear and still noisy, replace it. BUT be sure to check all measurements.

The best thing is to search on the numbers listed on the fan unless you can find one from ACER. Possibly under warranty too.

Hi @Larryodie and thanks a lot for your reply.

It's not dirty and doesn't look to be hitting anything. The computer is fairly new, a bit more than 3 months old, and not heavily used. It seems, on "heavy" tasks, like exporting/converting videos, the fan gets at full throttle. Doesn't sound like an abnormal noise, or clicking, or hitting anything. Just a really loud buzzing sound.

    Cheers!

Spin it by hand , if you hear noise then replace it. You nor I don't know how long that the motor has been sitting in a hot container ?

The lubricant (grease) has dried up.

Replace or call ACER under warranty.

Older fan motors, I could squirt a drop of oil in the bearing but these are cheap so replace or let Acer send a new one.
