Hi everyone,

i noticed that threads about Predator Helios crashes and freezes keep popping up everyday.

So here is my story. I got my laptop 1 week ago and i was very excited about it until i tried to some games.

Before i started, i updated every possible driver and software.

I loaded out COD and after about 5 mins of playing the laptop just freezes and i mean the "bad" freezing where you can only hold down the power button in order to restart.

I tried different games and different "modes" from predator sense, laptop still keeps freezing.

I did a clean windows install with DDU, tried different tweaks from OO shutup and also updated BIOS to the latest version - still no success.

At this point i ran out of ideas.

Could anyone help?

Cheers :)

  • Use msi Afterburner and check if your CPU/GPU Temperatures are going above 90°C.(Check this after following below steps)

We need to take care of cooling for best performance. Make sure you are notnusing laptop on bed. Follow below suggestions.

Prop the laptop up with books around the sides to reduce heat

Grab stack of 2-4 books that are equally thick. Slide the spine of a book 2–3 inches (5.1–7.6 cm) under the right side of the laptop. Do the same on the left side of the laptop.

In last follow below optimization guide completely-

(Make sure laptopla Is plugged in as gaming laptops need electricity to run fully. Charging and Disconnecting again and again will be bad for battery)..

After following above steps open game and check performance. Normal temperatures for GPU/CPU While gaming is 60°C to 85°C. Thermal throttling starts above 90°C.

sadly I face similar issue in freezing, searching online I see this is a huge problem for many users of same laptop, I am shocked that acer are not addressing this issue seriously, I have been loyal customer to acer since 15 years and finally this issue is it, I won't get their products after this model, which probably I will scrap soon because it is not reliable.

Same issue here, and especially when using turbo or performance mode. My laptop is in a 20 degree celius room and on a cooling pad.
I tried increasing the fan speed manually with no luck.

It seems this is a common issue and it is very frustrating as currently I am unable to use the laptop to its full potential.

You need to upgrade the ram to 64GB @ 2x 32GB DDR5-5600MT/s CL46 and get a speedy gaming M.2 SSD drive preferably a Samsung 990 Pro + Heatsink, as these new PHN16-72 with the 14th Gen cpu's need good components for them to operate efficiently in gaming. Try that as I'm using the PHN16-71-50JG with the 13th Gen i5-13500HX cpu RTX4050 gpu and with DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 64GB total ram and the Samsung 990 Pro + Heatsink M.2 SSD and I don't have any of these symptoms in my laptop and I've got the latest Win-11 24H2 updated to the last OS build: 26100.3476.

I play allot of the racing games like Assetto Corsa EVO, F1 2025, NFS etc etc and I don’t get any freezing at all, I’ve got this laptops last bios 1.18 installed that fixes the cpu microcode issue, I'm using a laptop tablet cooler also and all settings at default and in bios the setting is changed to the NVidia gpu only, DO NOT use the combination of both the Intel and NVidia graphics, ONLY use the NVidia graphics RTX40xx gpu, as that could be causing the freezing. Good luck and hope this assist further and is a solution to some of your with the PHN16-72-xxxx model laptop, as what you have is a great gaming laptop that needs to be setup properly.
