Hello

I have an Aspire A517-58GM-79PU laptop to which I'm trying to add a secondary samsung SSD to HDD port1 with no luck. It is detected by the BIOS as HDD1 (see picture), however it is not detected in windows in device manager, and when it is pluged into the HDD1 port there is an error in device manager for PCI express root port (see picture). I have tried the following, but nothing helped:

  • updated bios to the latest version
  • installing new chipset drivers
  • clean installing windows on the new drive. Not visible by windows setup. If i move the drive to port HDD0, it is visible
  • old hdd that came with the laptop also not visible to windows setup in port HDD1, if i try to boot the original windows instalation from HDD1 port, it blue screens with no boot device found

The new samsung SSD is working properly on another desktop PC with 2 NVMe slots

Any advice would be appreciated. I tried to find a key combo to enter advanced settings in bios, but wasn't able to find it online. The problem is obviosly in HDD1 port as everything works in HDD0 port. Perhaps there is some bios tweek i need to do, but I was not able to find advanced setting.

Thanks

Ok, I found how to enter advanced bios, but it's so advanced I don't know what to make of it:

    • When the laptop is off. Press and hold 'Fn' & 'Tab' keys and hit the power button.
    • Now release all the keys ('Fn' & 'Tab') when you see keyboard lights.
    • Press 'F2' key several times to launch the BIOS. (It will load for like 10 seconds maybe)
    • Go to 'Advanced options'
    • Now the second 'Advanced' tab has all the super advanced options & features to tweak.

If anybody know how to make the SSD work in HDD1 port, please do tell :)

    Thanks.
