The key was likely a Windows 11 Home product key, which explains why you encountered activation issues after trying to upgrade to Windows 11 Pro.
You have a few choices:
- Purchase a legitimate Windows 11 Pro license from the Microsoft Store
- Install the Windows 11 Home that came with your Acer laptop

Yes, the pirated key you used to activate Pro was written over the genuine Home key, so you are stuck with purchasing a valid key now. Home will be cheaper if you don't need the extra features in Pro. If your machine isn't too old you might be able to purchase the original recovery image from the Acer Store, which would include a new Home license.

Losing the original key can be frustrating! If your laptop came with Windows pre-installed, the key might be embedded in the BIOS. You can try retrieving it using tools like
