Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-58) RAM upgrade to 32GB confusion!!

Hi all - I hope someone can help clear this up………

I have an Acer Nitro 5, and after registering it with the serial number on the Acer site, it identified the model as AN515-58. I'm looking to upgrade the RAM from 16GB to 32GB.

When I opened the back of the laptop, I noticed the installed RAM consists of 2x 8GB DDR3 1333MHz modules, and the plastic RAM cradle is stamped with these words "DRAM (DDR3L ONLY)". However, online resources and specifications for this model suggest it should support DDR4 RAM.

Can someone clarify this for me? I'm unsure what type of RAM to purchase, and since RAM is non-returnable once opened, I want to ensure I buy the correct type.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi, this laptop does not support DDR3L only DDR4 and DDR5

Type System info in Search and verify your laptop model, I think there is an error with your registration, did you buy a refurbished laptop perhaps, DDR3L was discontinued in 2017?

If you go to Intel @
    Intel® Core™ i7-12650H Processor
24M Cache, up to 4.70 GHz
which is the top cpu that the Nitro AN515-58 laptop is fitted with (which determines the ram type) you will see that Intel specifies for this cpu the following:

    • Max Memory Size (dependent on memory type) - 64 GB
    • Memory Types Up to DDR5 4800 MT/s - Up to DDR4 3200 MT/s / Up to LPDDR5 5200 MT/s / Up to LPDDR4x 4267 MT/s

Acer specifies for the Nitro AN515-58 laptops the following ram :

    • Up to DDR4-3200MT/s - 260-pin DDR4 SODIMM - 1.2V
    • For models LA-L992P & LA-L978P DDR5 - Up to DDR5-4800MT/s - 180-pin DDR5 SODIMM - 5V/1.1V

So the above is all that the Intel 12th gen cpu ram that should be have been fitted to your AN515-58 laptop should have and should work with as it does NOT work with DDR3L type ram. Have a look at the cpu that is fitted to your so called "Nitro 5 AN515-58-xxxx laptop" as it could be a fake copy of the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58-xxxx laptop and you should return this laptop to where you bought it from asap! Good luck.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I attach 2 pictures:

    1) a pic of my actual laptops installed ram, which shows it is DDR3 and also a pic of the back of my laptop showing the model number is AN515-58, so it is not an issue with the registration process selecting the wrong model number.

So on this evidence it would seem obvious to go for DDR3 upgrades, but as I said, everything out there tells me that it is DDR4 ram that must be installed.

Any further help would be appreciated!

    @SendelUK

Can you take a picture of the whole machine? That interior does not look like from a Nitro Laptop.

Please remember to include @AnhEZ28 when you want to reply back to my comment so that I can check your response.
Thank you and have a nice day!

Hi, this laptop model comes with Intel i5 12450H;12500H CPUs that supports memory Types Up to DDR5 4800 MT/s
Up to DDR4 3200 MT/s, Up to LPDDR5 5200 MT/s and Up to LPDDR4x 4267 MT/s. or i7 12650H/12700H CPUs that supports Up to DDR5 4800 MT/s, Up to DDR4 3200 MT/s, Up to LPDDR5 5200 MT/s and Up to LPDDR4x 4267 MT/s, Not DDR3L Ram modules. Ether the original motherboard was replaced or the case with the model label is not original. What CPU is installed? You can find out by typing System Info in Windows, where did you buy this laptop, is it refurbished?

    Hi @AnhEZ28

I am away from my laptop at the minute, but I have attached a slightly larger image of the back and I have also provided a snippet of my original order purchase from a highly reputable company in the UK (Currys).

    Thanks again!

    Hi @StevenGen

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

My Windows sysinfo confirms that I do indeed have the Intel® Core™ i7-12650H Processor installed.
