Left Click not responding on A315-34 trackpad, how to fix it without replacing the trackpad?

Three year old A315 laptop, the 'left click' section of the mouse pad no longer 'clicks'. Removed the laptop's back, battery and metal bracket holding the track pad in place. The 'bounce' is provided by a small plastic 'spring' - 12mm long by 3mm wide. This plastic tab has broken. See photo.

Replacing the whole mouse / track pad assembly would probably cost more than the value of the laptop could justify. Does anyone have any suggestion for a home repair?

    Hi @Wooster I don't know exactly how the piece works, but the click should happen on the right. Couldn't you glue the piece and reinforce the joint on its upper part with a piece of rigid plastic or a piece of soft metal by gluing it horizontally to the joint?

    Thanks for your quick reply. (7 minutes!) Not sure what you mean by 'should happen on the right'. There are left and right sections of the track pad that act like the old mouse left and right buttons. At the bottom corners the pad will move down (maybe) 1mm so you can 'left click'. Without the tab (in the photo) in place, the pad isn't pushed back up - it's permanently done 1mm.

    The trouble with placing anything on the surrounding area - and gluing it in place - is that if the thickness of whatever is glued is 1mm or more, it will permanently push the pad up. They'll be no movement when you 'left click'.

    The broken tab was effectively a plastic spring with 1mm of travel.

    Another option, a little more complicated, is to look for a similarly damaged computer in a computer scrap yard or workshop.

    I've tried several ideas to re-attach the tab top the stub, but they all end up being too stiff. I can't get the correct 'bounce'.

    I was surprised that the trackpad is not as expensive as I thought it would be. But there are two versions for my laptop: 56.HS5N2.001 and 002. How do I find out which one I need?

    I don't know, the only thing I can do is put a screenshot of the compatible models that appear in the service manual, but none of them match the identification you have put:
