Aspire One with Windows 8 has miserable network speed

I bought an Aspire One with Windows 8 loaded on it for my wife. Wireless conection / internet speeds are less then terrible, they're non-existant. Does anyone have a fix for this miserable machine. Using the same network my Galaxy S3 and Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 work just fine. The Acer with Windows 8 can't even get on the web 90% of the time. Any suggestions besides getting rid of the Acer?

It would be helpful if you provide the eaxct model number of your computer.

Also control panel for name of the wireless adapter.

To check the network adapter please follow the below steps.
Press the Windows + X keys, and select Device Manager from the list.
Click + Network Adapters to expand the section.
    The adapter would be listed.

Hi jwgruver, it appears that is a common problem in Windows 8 due to apps from metro. These apps are constanly updating itself. So, you can make some configurations to see if that is the problem.

Here are some steps, if you want to do it:

Disable Windows Update. I not recommend this choice, because always is important to have the Operating System up to date.

    1-Go to Control Pannel ( Windows + I + Enter)

    2-Choose Windows Update

3-At your left side choose, "Change Configuration". There are 3 options, just choose which you want.

    Avoiding the apps automatic updating

This is the most common problem I have had with Windows 8.

1-Go to Administrative Templates, then Store.

2- Click on " Disable automatic downloads of apps"

There are more options for configuring, but lets try these ones. If not reply me and we can dig deeper in this problem.

    Regards

The network adapters are Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11n Network Adapter, and Microsoft Kernel Debug Network Adapter.
