AN517-55-5354 SSD upgrade question, built in heatsink possible?

I currently have the model listed in the title and was curious if it was possible to fit an SSD with built in heatsink in the #2 slot. I currently have a WD 850X 1TB SSD in that slot, along with the OEM 512GB drive in slot#1. Would it fit? The drive I have in mind is the Seagate Firecuda 530R 2TB, with the built in heatsink. I just know that heat is a major factor in electronic livelihood and wanted to use an SSD with a heatsink if possible to keep my laptop nice and "chilled". I could not find any supporting information online about this so I came here to bug the masses instead.

Hi, there are 2 PCIe 4x4 slots that both support the latest Gen4 SSDs, I recommend the fast Samsung 990 Evo Plus 2TB SSD for slot 2 that does not require a heatsink as it runs cooler than most Gen4 SSDs, just a thermal wrap will work.

Yes it should fit, the Seagate Firecuda 530R 2TB has pretty low profile heatsink and flat. So it will fit especially that your laptop is 1.12 inches thick which is allot thicker than the AN515-57 16” laptop.

As you can see the Seagate Firecuda 530R 2TB drive has very low profile heatsink cooler

I’ve tested the M.2 Gen 4 x4 Samsung 990 Pro with its oem Heatsink that has a very low profile also, (it fits perfectly in my other new PHN16-71 Predator that is 1.05/1.11 in. thick), as your Nitro AN517-57 has a Height (front to rear) of 1.12 inches (28.6 mm) while the AN515-57 - 16" laptop that has dimension iof 0.96 inch (24.35 mm) and that extra 4.25mm that your laptop has is the difference in being able to fit these new M.2 SSDs with heatsinks.

Just as an example, as in my Nitro that I tested this M.2 Samsung with Heatsink the Nitro AN515-56 is the same 0.96 inch (24.35 mm) thickens as the AN515-57 16” laptop, and I couldn’t close the lid even with taking the poor excuse of a heatsink that Acer uses that is stuck to the back lid. I also tried the M.2 PCIe 3x 4 M.2 boot drive with the Samsung 970 EVO Plus drive fitted with an EK-M.2 NVMe Heatsink and that definitely didn’t fit as it was way too thick to close the lid.

This is the EK-M.2 NVMe Heatsink that can be bought and adding this heatsink to an M.2 SSD without a heatsink and to a laptop like an AN515-57 or AN515-56 that have a Height (front to rear) 0.96 inch (24.35 mm) will not fit but to a thicken laptop it will fit and its a great addition as a cooling device of an M.2 drive that gets pretty hot especially a boot M.2 SSD that is working all the time.

It’s all trial and error and experimenting, but in my opinion, these oem M.2 SSDs fitted with a heatsink have a very low profile and for thick laptop like your AN517-57 they will fit, but don’t take my word for it 100% measure your internal spaces and make sure . Good luck and hope all this helps you out, as it should.👍.
