I'd like to know what is recommended for upgrading my Aspire TC1785 with an additional 1TB or plus, and a disk writer. Any restrictions or compatibilities to watch for? thanks

There are two RAM slots for upgrading a maximum memory capacity of 64GB Memory DDR5 PC5-38400 4800MHz Non-ECC UDIMMs

    Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR5-4800 UDIMM | CT2K8G48C40U5 | Crucial IN

Your Aspire TC-1785 M.2 SSD slot is a Gen4x4 M.2 SSD slot for Gen4 NVMe SSDs like the Samsung 990pro up to 4TB

Yes, that didn't completely answer your question, since that is only storage and memory, not a DVD. Your system should have come with a small bag of parts used to correctly mount the optical drive. You want a slimline drive. Here are instructions for assembling and installing one:

At that point you should be good to go. The drive will show up the next time you turn the system on.

this is perfect, great instructions and pics… I should be able to handle that.

And yes there is a bag of connector, which will assist with the connection. thanks again.

On the other hand, I do want to add a 2nd ssd for internal back-up purposes. the M.2 slot has the original 1TB ssd installed, therefore I assume I should add a 2.5 SSD and plug it using using the SATA connectors.

Yes. If there aren't holes for mounting the 2.5" SSD, just use an adapter. IIRC there are holes, they are just sideways from what you expect…
