Aspire 7 A715-76G-560W coolingfan issue & BSOD after installing Windows 11. Is software or hardware?

Dear Acer Community,

I am experiencing persistent issues with my Acer Aspire 7 A715-76G-560W, which I purchased in June 2024. Below, I have detailed the problems and troubleshooting steps I have already performed.

  1. Cooling Fan Issue:
    • From the very first use after installing Windows 11 (the laptop came preloaded with DOS), the cooling fans have been excessively active, even during light usage such as browsing or document editing.
    • Despite no overheating being detected by monitoring software, the noise level indicates the fans are not functioning properly.
    • I attempted to switch between operational modes ("Silent," "Balanced," "Performance") provided by the system, but the fan issue persists.
    • This problem has been present since the very first setup and installation of Windows 11 but was initially overlooked due to heavy initial configuration processes.
  2. Blue Screen of Death (BSOD):
    • I have experienced recurring BSODs more than once a month. Using BlueScreenView, I found the issue is caused by watchdog.sys (VGA Boot Driver) with Bug Check Code 0x00000119 (VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR).
    • Most recently, the BSOD occurred while using multiple applications: streaming a YouTube video, running Microsoft Teams with an active video call, and sharing a demo video through Google Chrome.
  3. Troubleshooting Attempts:
    • Removed and reinstalled the drivers for both integrated and dedicated GPUs.
    • Ran sfc /scannow to check system files.
    • Updated Windows to the latest version.
    • Conducted stress tests using Intel tools and ran various benchmarks. None of these tests reproduced the BSOD.
  4. Windows Installation and Environment:
    • Windows 11 was installed from an ISO image. As the laptop initially came with DOS, there were no pre-installed drivers or issues tied to the factory configuration.
    • I suspect the fan issue might not be related to viruses, as it was present immediately after installing and configuring the laptop.
  5. Additional Concerns:
    • Would a clean reinstallation of Windows 11 help resolve these issues?
    • Is it possible to install Windows 10 on this model, even though Acer’s website provides drivers only for Windows 11?
    • How can I determine whether these problems are hardware-related or software-related, given my limited access to a service center?

Your guidance on these issues would be greatly appreciated. I hope to resolve these problems from home if possible.

    If your laptop didn’t come with the Win-11 Home or Pro OS preinstalled from Acer, then I suggest that you do a clean install of the Win-11 24H2 version and all its updates to OS build 26100.2605, you don’t need a windows key for the OS as your laptop will automatically register with a digital key from Microsoft through your Microsoft account and an attached email for that account.

    Do NOT install Win-10 on this laptop as this laptop is designed by Acer specifically for Win-11 and installing Win-10 you will not be able to get certain drivers and the laptop will not perform fully and to its potential.

    To install Win-11 properly do a “clean Install” which for that you need to build a bootable Win-11 8GB USB with the bootable Rufus 4.5 software and follow its guide as you will need to download the Win-11 24H2 .ISO OS file from Microsoft and put that file onto the bootable USB together with the A715-76Gs IRST (Intel® Rapid Storage Technology) Driver version 19.2.0.1003 so that when you get to the Win-11 installation section @ “Where do you want to install Windows? > Load driver” you need to load this Intel driver so that your laptop recognizes the M.2 drive and you can continue the Win-11 installation.

    Afterwards make sure that you download all available windows updates and when you finished that and your laptop doesn’t crash or have any BSODs (make sure as this is important before a bios update) go on the Windows update page > Advanced options > Optional updates > then look at the Driver updates as there should be the latest bios update from Insyde for your Aspire A715-76G laptop which is called something like “Insyde Software – Firmware – 5.44.1.55” which is the last bios for this laptop or you can also go to Acer support page for the A715-78G and download the bios version 1.55 from there.

    For the dedicated NVidia gpu and gaming download the NVidia GeForce Experience and install this and create an NVidia account so that you can use this software and it will also notify you of the latest NVidia gpu driver for your gpu and also you can play all games through this software with the ultimate settings from NVidia. As doing all this should make your Aspire 715-76G perform at its top performance and the fans should not be spinning all the time like they are now. If all the above doesn’t fix your laptop fans and temps then send the Aspire A715-76G to Acer tech support in your country as its got a hardware issue(s) and get Acer technicians (who will probably change the mainboard) and fix all the problems for you.     You didn’t answer my question because I didn’t ask how to properly install Windows 11 but whether it’s the right thing to do at all. My question was whether reinstalling Windows is necessary and whether it’s truly worth doing in my situation. I wanted to understand if the issue I described earlier might be hardware-related rather than software-related. Is there any justification for reinstalling Windows, or could it be completely ineffective? I’d like to know how to verify this.
