I have noticed that the display on my screen does not seem to be HDR as is stated in the system specifications, it seems my phone displays images better than my laptop does. The definition is lacking and some colours don't seem right.

There is also an issue with the MIC not picking up sound and the volume output being lower than was previously Im just not sure what is wrong. Can anyone help at all?

Hi, the laptop specifications don't specifically mention Windows Certified HDR playback. The microphone needs to be set in Windows (see pictures), and the sound volume can be enhanced with equalizers both Windows media Player and DTS have equalizers that boost the volume up to 12 db, Windows Store also offers many good equalizers.

Go to System > Display > Advanced display and there it should tell you what your PHN16-72 laptop screen is and if its HDR or SDR. Also go there at Microsoft Stream HDR video on Windows and also see this What is HDR in Windows?

Btw, below is a caption of what my PHN16-71 165Hz NVidia G-Sync screen that I've set the bios for this laptop to only use the NVidia RTX4050 graphics and the PHN16-71 doesn't have any setting to turn HDR on, so check out your PHN16-72 @ Settings > Display Advance display and see if your screen has a HDR switch that you might need to turn this feature on.

As Microsoft says that you also need certain codes for HDR, as your Windows device needs to have a graphics card that supports PlayReady hardware digital rights management (for protected HDR content), and it must have the required codecs installed for 10-bit video decoding. Devices using modern processors support this capability. Some codecs might already be installed on your PC. Here are the common codecs that are required to play HDR video:

    • HEVC. You’ll need this codec and a premium subscription to play HDR video on Netflix. To determine if this codec is installed, open Settings, select Apps > Apps & features, then search for video extension. If this codec isn’t installed, you can download it from the Microsoft Store —HEVC Video Extensions.
    • VP9. You’ll need this codec to play HDR video on YouTube. To determine if this codec is already installed, open the Microsoft Store app, and search for it there—VP9 Video Extensions.
    • AV1. To determine if this codec is already installed, open the Microsoft Store app, and search for it there—AV1 Video Extension.

We also recommend that you have the latest graphics drivers (WDDM) installed on your Windows PC. To get the latest drivers, go to Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options > Optional updates, or check your PC manufacturer's website.
