Will a 12.5mm optical drive fit in Aspire XC 1785 or Do I need a 9.5mm drive?

I ordered a XC 1785 and will be picking it up today most likely. It won't come with an optical drive unfortunately but I do have an old laptop with one in it. I believe the drive is a 12.5mm one, will that work in the XC 1785 or will I need to use a 9.5mm one?

Yeah, most systems these days don't have an optical drive installed, most everything is streamed now. Here's what Acer uses for those versions that do have the drive installed:

So it is a 9mm drive, not 12.5mm. I picked up an inexpensive external drive the last time I needed one, so don't bother to install any directly into the machine. USB ports are plenty fast for that use.

Do you know if it needs to be a 9mm drive or would a 12.5mm drive also fit? I might give it a try either way tonight.

And in my case I will be using the optical drive quite a bit since I'm setting up a bit of an emulator console type thing and want to be able to use my physical discs, I just feel an internal drive will keep everything tidier.

Yes, check to be sure. We know what Acer shipped, but not the physical limitations. The bracket should be the same, the bezel almost certainly would not.

Well that drive was too big. I went out and bought a 9.5mm drive and it works!

Not too surprising, but definitely good to know!
