Creating custom power leads from serial ATA connectors, Do I need to link specific pins?

Im making some power leads from the two Serial ATA connectors ( ) to a HDD and Optical Drive, I had one power lead that came with the PC, but it was too short, so I decided to make two new ones anyway. The motherboard has two 6in JST (XHP-6) connectors for ATA Power, but the lead uses the center 4 but links 1-2 and 5-6. Does anyone know if this is a requirement for the Power Leads?

Got the connectors, so will make the leads up this weekend, the DVD fits, but not quite, looks like the Acer DVD must have a bracket on the back that is specific to this installation. might be plastic as it looks like it fixes to the DVD with two very small screws and then 'clips' into the housing. if i cant find one, I'm sure i can 3D print one..happy to share the solution when done if anyone is interested.
