Acer monitor says no signal to Dell Vostro 1510

My acer monitor and Dell Vostro 1510 laptop were communicating just fine til yesterday when the monitor says no signal. When I boot up, it shows me the first couple of Windows xp screens, but when it gets to the screen where I put in my password, it says "no signal" so I use the laptop monitor.  Can anyone sort this out for me?  Thanks very much.

Firstly, what happened yesterday as far as your laptop's concerned? - any new software, updates, drivers, etc. Installed? Any changes made to the cord hookup? ...point being, something had to change - even if (worst case scenario) the monitor up-and-failed, there's likely a reason behind it...could be a simple as needing to tighten the cable on each end, or some setting got re-configured, possibly without your knowledge.

...best guess might be having to do with the 'screen resolution', in that it may have been messed with somehow (as the screen is fine, as you say, up until Windows boots up). After logging into the laptop, check - as long as the monitor is plugged in, there should be two screens available to configure where you can set options like 'Extend these displays' or something similar. As I'm not as familiar with Vista (presumably your OS) as I'd like to be, I can't know for sure. Also, make sure that the input on the monitor is set correctly (though I believe it should default to whatever's in use).

...exactly what Acer monitor? - can we get a model number?

    hi...

This is an issue with screen resolution, you need to login in safe mode, uninstall the display drivers from device manager, then start the computer inn normal mode. The display drivers would be automaticaly installed.

Acer X 203H. I had this problem when I first bought the monitor and for the life of me can't recall how I resolved it.  Right now gives me the screen saver when I set the display to "extend to this monitor" but not what's going on on the main monitor.  I believe when I last shut it down, windows installed some updates possibly but this problem was basically over night.  As I recall it was a very uncomplicated fix. In a word, it worked up until the other morning.  I have xp pro on the computer.  I have not installed anything.

Well, I'd suggest trying Sharanji's method above (if you haven't already). If that doesn't work, I'd start troubleshooting - try (if you have the equipment available) plugging the monitor into anything else (preferably a desktop computer), and try hooking the laptop into a different monitor (or HDTV). Then we can start narrowing down the possible problems...
