When I connect my laptop to bluetooth speakers, they disconnect after a few minutes then play returns back to the tinny laptop speakers.

  • No errors in Device Manager.
  • I have updated to the latest BT driver.
  • I have turned off device power settings via device manager - properties
  • No Windows updates (all updates installed).

Any ideas on how I can get the devices communicating longer than a few minutes at a time.

Is laptop plugged in when they disconnect? Do you have Windows in power saver mode?

I have checked power save settings and cannot see anything relating to bluetooth. There is something relating to PCI Express, so I told Power Management to leave it alone. Still keeps happening.

The laptop is in AC power mode, therefore it should now be trying to conserve power.

p.s. I have disabled power magaement by Device Manager - Bluetooth - Right clicking intel bluetooth xxx and selecting properties. Then power management and unticked the power manage box. Still happening.

No. It shouldn't be trying to conserve power plugged in. Otherwise, BT will auto-disable. Also check that WiFi power mgt is also disabled. WiFi+BT functions are on same chip. Windows power mgt app is still buggy sometimes, often doesn't treat them independently. That is, they both have to be set to off or on. Also, for some device manager power mgt changes to take effect, the machine must be re-booted.
