Hello.

I reinstalled windows from a usb, everything but the touchpad seems to work. when loading into bios, the touchpad works there, however it doesn't work when actually in windows. Looking at the driver's website it says I need to download the Serial I/O driver but it's not showing up in the list below.

Hey I downloaded this chipset driver but the touchpad still isnt working. I downloaded the touchpad driver again and tried downloading it again after the chipset driver. should i try to reinstall windows from a usb or reset windows using the cloud? would that perhaps fix it?

    Hi @Arcadia97

Thanks for the update, Even after reinstalling the drivers and if you are not able to get the touch pad working then here are few steps that you can check,

Boot the system in Windows Safe mode, with minimal set of drivers loaded and check whether you are able to access the touchpad and see it is working, if not.

Take a data backup of you computer in a USB drive and keep it safe, then try to proceed the below options.

    like System - Refresh/ Restore/ Reset.

Please refer to the below weblinks to get the System - Refresh/ Restore or Reset done.

By restoring the OS to the previous OS Restore point date when the touchpad & Windows was working properly.

    1. Select the Start  button, then type control panel in the search box next to the Start button on the taskbar and select Control Panel (Desktop app) from the results.
    2. Search Control Panel for Recovery, and select Recovery > Open System Restore Next
    3. Choose the restore point related to the problematic app, driver, or update, and then select Next > Finish.

    Hi @Joe_Kingsley

I will try to boot it in safe mode. as for resetting the os to a point before the touchpad problem, im unsure if ill be able to do that. I fully reinstalled windows the other day and wiped all my data. I will bring this up with the technician that i will be seeing tomorrow.

For anyone with this problem, i went to an authorized retailer and maintenance store for dell and hp, and they werent able to figure it out. then i went to a third party that deals with software problems, they downloaded the driver for the touchpad from a usb, which made the touchpad work. now i am a bit of a suspicious person so i got them to download the content into my own usb and when i went home i fully reset my laptop, i erased all information incase any harmful thing was in added along with the touchpad driver. When i reset the laptop fully and erased all information my touchpad was working and didn't need to have the touchpad driver installed from a usb. so again if anyone has this problem and aren't able to get it fixed maybe you can try this.
