Last night when the screen of my laptop was turned off (turns off automatically after 10 minutes of being idle) I went to use it and noticed a line had appeared at the top of the screen. I included an image that hopefully illustrates what I'm seeing. Any ideas what it is and how to fix it? My laptop is old so it's possible there's no fix. Thanks in advance

Try to uninstall the graphics driver and reinstall it and see if that helps and gets rid of that white stripe on the screen, if it doesn’t, then its ether the eDP cable that has a tear and that fault happens or the screen is faulty. Try the eDP cable first, as that cable transits from the top to the bottom of the laptop and it can be damaged over a period of time from the opening and closing of the laptop and wear and tear. If you need a new screen install HWiNFO64 software and look in this software's Monitor section for the screen model that your old Aspire E5-575G laptop has and search for a new screen online. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Sometimes the cable connecting the display to the motherboard can become loose or damaged. You can try gently pressing around the edges of the screen or opening the laptop (if you're comfortable doing so) to check the cable connection. Outdated or corrupted display drivers can cause display problems, so try updating your display drivers by going to Device Manager, finding your display adapter, right-clicking it, and selecting Update Driver. Follow the prompts to update the driver. If your laptop has a dedicated graphics card, there might be an issue with it. You can try connecting your laptop to an external monitor to see if the problem persists. If the external display works fine, the issue might be with your laptop's display rather than the graphics card. Physical damage to the screen can cause lines to appear. If the screen has been hit or pressed, it might need to be replaced.
