There are two RAM slots if the first slot contains 16GB DDR5-5200MT/s you should match that module in every detail in the 2nd slot so it will run in Dual Channel mode. This model comes with 2 PCIe M.2 slots for SSDs, Slot 1 is for a Gen 4x4 SSD like the Samsung 990 Evo 1TB or more or the 1TB WD Black SN770, the second slot is for a Gen 3x4 like the Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB.

Regarding the larger compatible SSDs, here is a list but I don't see any larger than 512GB:

Do you mind stating down what SSD you bought? I'm curious what SSD you bought since you said the connector is different.

Judging from the model (previously I owned AN515-45), there is only 1 slot for NVMe SSD and 1 slot for 2.5" SSD.

So I'm assuming you might had bought the wrong type of SSD.
