The Predator Orion 5000 desktop PO5-640 has an Intel H670 chipset and an ALC897 audio mobo and is fitted oem with a Socket FCLGA1700 type cpu, this desktop was not released with the Socket FCLGA1700 Intel Core i9-12900(K) top of the range 12th Gen cpu's and even if you upgrade to this cpu, the last Acer bios version R01-B0 for the PO5-640 will not make the i9-12900 cpu work with the PO5-640 mobo, you need to use the oem i7-12700 cpu as that is the highest spec cpu for this desktop.

The only upgrade(s) that will increase performance with this desktop is to increase the ram capacity to 64GB, see the ram from Crucial for the Acer Predator Orion 5000 PO5-640 RAM & SSD Upgrades, also upgrade the M.2 SSD to a Gen 4x4 Samsung 990 Pro NVMe drive, as that will also increase performance. With the PO5-640s Acer oem 800W PSU and its oem RTX3080 gpu that is tested @ 79.2% (122.1fps) gpu, you will need to upgrade the gpu to at least an NVidia 4070 tested @ 87.1% (134.2fps) or above spec gpu to get any noticeable performance increases in the graphics. Doing all the above, will greatly increase gaming performance considerably so that is your choices, otherwise get the latest PO7-655 14th Gen i9-14900K cpu desktop with either a RTX 4070Ti or an RTX 4090 gpu. Good luck and hope all this helps you out.

The mother Board is H67h6-AM, which uses FCLGA1700

I have attached a photo from another user who have done this upgrade

Yes, but in answer to your first question, you can only use 12th gen CPUs.

Ok understand so I might be better off keeping my 12700 alderlake non k but upgrade to a 4080 this might be a solution

Look at the power supply you have. IIRC you have an 800W and Nvidia says you need at least 750W, so you should be good to go. Remember though that Nvidia will be starting to ship the 50x0 cards sometime around the first of the year, so pricing on the 40x0 cards may start to drop once those are first released…
