What should I buy to replace the failing SSD on my Predator Helios 300 PH317-54

Any recommendation on what to buy to replace? I'm from Canada. I can use Amazon, Best Buy and websites like that.

When I play NBA 2K25 I get this message from Intel storage, it says my drive is in danger with an exclamation mark, but nothing more.

It seems to only happen when I play NBA 2K25

Should I uninstall NBA 2K25 from the SSD and install it in the HDD, maybe it will solve my problem?

Ok, so I moved NBA 2K25 to my 2 TB HDD, and it works just fine, and I don't get the message anymore. I will install my future games in the 2 TB HDD.

Which M.2 SSD drive was fitted oem from Acer to your Predator Helios PH317-54 laptop? As there were allot of different drives fitted to the PH317-54 laptop (see caption below).

If you have a Samsung install their Magician software and see if the drive has a new firmware from Samsung, do the same for the Sandisk which is a WD drive, their M.2 drive software is called Western Digital Dashboard and for Seagate its called SeaTools Express utility, check your drives firmware and the condition of the drive with these M.2 SSD software's from these manufacturers and/or update their firmware if needed, as that is why the drive is failing with that game and/or it could be faulty. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Ok, so even if NBA2K25 is installed on my HDD, my SSD is tripping, and I found out why with the Western Digital software! The temperature shoots up to 85 Degree Celsius while the game is running, and then I get the message from intel storage that my drive is in danger.

And this is the temperature when I close the game

So my guess is, I cannot Play NBA 2K25 at all, and there is nothing I can do about it. Right? I will consider sending a ticket to refund the game.

Those temp of your laptops WD SN730 M.2 SSD drive are very hot and high @ 85ºC as an M.2 SSD drive should not be allowed to go past a max of 70ºC, the WD SN730 is not a PCIe 3x4 lane specific gaming drive, use the WD Black SN750 (if you can still buy them) as the new WD SN770 Black gaming M.2 SSD is pretty reasonably priced and will work very well in your laptop as that is a Gen 4x4 lane drive and it will perform allot cooler and better in your laptop, so try that as an alternative to play the NBA 2K25 game should play easily on your PH317-54 at i7-8750H or i5-8300H cpu's and its RTX 2060 gpu, maybe you should increase the ram if you are running 16GB now to 32GB at 2x 16GB DDR4-3200MT/s CL22, as this laptop can have a max total of 64GB at 2x 32GB DDR3-3200MT/s CL22 also.

Btw, I'm using the WD SN730 in my Nitro 5 AN515-56 as a 2nd SSD and its running the below temps in WD Dashboard, also I've also used the WD SN770 Black in my Nitro and it worked perfectly as a boot drive with gaming, but now its installed in a Swift SFX14-51G Gen 4x4 laptop as I'm using a Samsung 970 EVO NVMe Gen 3 x4 lane with my Nitro boot drive that I've put the Thermal Grizzly Carbonaut high-tech carbon pad stuck all over the top of the M.2 drive with a copper thin cooler thermal shield on top of that also, and it works great and never ever overheats and/or gets past 60ºC at high end gaming like Assetto Corsa Competizione and GTA4 car racing games that never stress the Nitro RTX3050 gpu and/or the i7-11370H cpu out and I can play these games for hours on this laptop with the temps never ever going past max 60ºC on the Samsung boot drive. So try the above out as that game should play on your laptop.

    WD dashboard for the SSD2 WD SN730 1TB M.2 PCIe3x 4 drive.

Also, try and get a copper thing thermal shield and put a high quality graphite thermal pad on the entire top of the M.2 drive and put the thin copper thermal shield on top of that and see if the drive dissipates heat better with this type of cooling, as that should work. Good luck and hope this helps you out further.

My Nitro 5 boot drive the Samsung Magician for the 970 EVO Plus 1TB temp after 3 hours of use and multitasking work, ambient room temp of 28ºC.

    Thank you very much.

For the ram I think I'm fine because all the games are running well, it's just when I play NBA that the temperature gets really hot, I will consider buying the SSD you suggested once this one dies. In the meantime, I will refrain from playing NBA2K25. My PC has 0 problems if I stay away from that game, and anyway it's my 7th game, I'm OK with not playing it.

Thank you so much, by the way I have another question. If I buy this SSD tonight, I just install it in the laptop and boot with a USB stick and install windows on it? And my overheating SSD, I put it in the second NVMe socket and it would work?

If there is such a big discount on the SAMSUNG 990 PRO SSD 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 buy it quickly before the sale is over😁, as this M.2 SSD drive is a quicker drive than the WD 850X Black, as its the quickest tested M.2 SSD on the market and imo Samsung make the best SSD drives, I've been using them for a long time and they very reliable and never ever let me down.

Alright, I ordered it, I also ordered some screws. It's coming tomorrow. Then I install it as primary boot and use my USB stick, right? Or do I clone my current drive somehow, LMAO, I have no idea what to do.

Ok now That I'm upgrading the laptop why not add ram like you suggested haha, I'll go for 64 GB Ram

    I have Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-10750H

I want to play NBA2k25 and Call of Duty Black Ops 6, and also livestream.

Alright, I installed my 64 GB RAM + SAMSUNG PRO 990 SSD, then I cloned my drive and change the boot disk to it. I played a bit of Call of Duty and I got this temperature from the samsung ssd

    I do like it.

But my Western Digital one, the old WDC PC SN730 SDBQNTY-1T00-1014, is going to 70-76 degree Celsius, and I am playing with Turbo mode ON.

So honestly, I ordered a cooling pad, hopefully it helps. We'll see tomorrow once I get it from Amazon. I would like temperature at like 70 Celsius that would be great.

Yes, if you game these M.2 SSDs do heat up and 74C is not too bad but don't let it go past 80C. Best is to buy some Thermal Grizzly Minus Pad Extreme thermal pad and put the pad across the whole top of the M.2 drive and then put a thin copper heatsink on top of that, as all this will dissipate heat allot better and your drive will operate allot cooler.

Ok, I will consider this, but if I put the Thermal pad over the SSD do I need to remove the metal thing that is screwed over the SSD and keep it off?

Ok, I'm back again. This new SSD PRO is incredible, I've been playing for hours and this is the temperature.

I ended up disabling my Western Digital SN730 SSD in task manager because I didn't feel like removing it, and now everything is fine, no more overheating. So I still have the SSD, it's just turned off. I can turn it back on when ever I don't do intense gaming like Call of Duty and NBA 2k25.

I have now 64 GB ram, a cooling pad and a non overheating SSD, my gaming laptop just became brand new!
