recently I lost ability to use or control sound. hovering over the sound icon says "no audio device found". went to device manager and tried to "update Intel Smart Sound driver"—-no help. went to Acer website which says I should reinstall the realtech sound, that didnt help either.

It would help if you told us which exact Spin 3 model you have, as a laptop like the Spin 3 the audio is governed not only by the audio driver like the Realtek driver but also the Intel and/or if it has a dedicated gpu like the NVidia drivers also, that are a part of the audio function of your laptop. so in your case and if you don’t have audio you should uninstall all the graphics drivers and start with the oem Acer drivers for your laptops Acer support page for Realtek, Intel and NVidia as that should fix whatever audio problems that you have. Good luck an I hope this helps you out to start solving the audio problem.

    1. Download the latest driver from the Laptop Manufacturer support site.
Search the Serial number or input the exact series and model of the laptop.

    Acer Support
    https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support

    once installed restart your computer.

    1. Uninstall all the audio drivers then let Windows reinstall the compatible audio drivers.
      Press Windows key + X
      select device manager
select Sound, video and game controllers
      Uninstall all audio drivers
then check "delete the driver software for this device"
      Click Uninstall.
Open Windows Updates the click "check for updates"
    2. If that didn't work. Restart again these audio services.
In the search box on the taskbar, type services,
find these services from the list, right-click, and then select Restart:

    Windows Audio

    Windows Audio Endpoint Builder

    Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

    1. Add a legacy sound driver hardware

    Press Windows key + X
    select device manager
    Click Action
    then Add legacy hardware
    Click Next
select Install the hardware that I manually select from a list
select Sound, video and game controllers
    then next
    select sound device manufacturer
    then click next > finish
    restart your computer.

well, thats what is printed after "MODEL NUMBER" on the bottom of the laptop. Acer website says thats a part number .

Evidently the actual model number is SP 314-54N

Thanks for the information, here is the download page for the hardware for Windows 10 and Windows 11, you haven't mentioned which one is yours?

According to this page, your sound device is not Intel but a Realtek, do you see any error symbol in the device manager?

Download and reinstall this driver, but first, go to the control panel and run the troubleshooting and select the audio ones:

Product Support - SP314-54N | Acer United States

    All the best.
