Travelmate TMP214-52-70G8 will not turn on / No Power

Hello, this laptop shows no sign of power or charge light. Power supply measures 19 volts at the Pin connector. Took out the battery, Solid state drive and Ram. It still does not show any signs of life while plugged into the charger.

Never had this before on any laptops, not sure how to diagnose this one. I don't want to buy a new power supply when this one measures the correct voltage.

Hoping someone can help me on this one.

    Hello!!

    @PCallegari

Shut machine off by pressing and holding the power button. Remove charger. Then gently insert a paperclip into the battery reset pinhole on the bottom of the laptop for about 30 seconds. Then plug the charger back in. Try to turn the machine on again.

Remove the charger again. Press and hold the paperclip into the reset pinhole again. Then while still pressing & holding the paperclip in the pinhole, press and hold the power button for one minute. Then plug the charger back in but wait for the battery LED to turn blue. Then try to turn it back on again.

Which P214 model do you have? There have been a bunch of different models over the years. Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like TMP214-xxx-xxxx.

Hello, I tried the procedure that LunaNova14 suggested but no luck, Thank you.

    My Model number isTMP214-52-70G8

I now have taken the cover off and tested for voltage at the charge connector, I have 19v

    Could it be the motherboard?

As a last resort disconnect the battery cable from the MOBO close the back of your laptop and plug in the adapter, some laptops run with power adapter only. If you can start without a battery you need to replace the battery. If that fails too I think it is a PSU-MOBO problem.

I did try battery out, harddrive out and ram out and still no operation. Thanks,

Does anyone have a schematic of this motherboard?

There is either a fuse or diode just after the charge port that has 19v on one side and 0v on the other

There is a marking on thie component that reads PJ0157 but I cannot cross reference this anywhere

Acer doesn't publish schematics even to us. We can get down to the block diagram level, but that doesn't specify anything really at the component level.

So that wouldn't tell me what this componet would be. I think I will post a picture of what I suspect on here. Maybe someone can tell me if it is a diode. I think it is as it has a small stripe on one end. I am wondering if I can momentarily bypass the diode to see if it powers up.

I will post a picture soon

    Thanks,

I suggest to try a new adapter ($30) and battery ($40) or bring your laptop to Acer Service for checking ($25 service fee). I had many old laptops with external battery packs that failed to start because of dead batteries.

I am going to ask around to see if someone has the same one to lend me for a test. Maybe I am just overthinking this and should just start again with the basics. Thanks and I will post on any progress I have made.

    Cheers,

PCallegari, did you manage to solve it? I just got the same problem

    Thanks

Do you also have the same P214-52 model? Have you gone through all the suggestions in this thread? You will likely get better exposure to members by starting a new thread instead of camping on an old one, especially an old one where the user never responded with a solve. Include your full model number. Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like xxxxx-xxx-xxxx. Tell us specifically what you are running into and what you have tried so far to get it diagnosed.

I fixed mine. All the steps above didn't work for me, but what did work was unclipping the keyboard keys- they clip on and suddenly it turned on. Worth a try!
