OS Upgrade Questions and others

I'm currently using a 2-year old Aspire 4750G and I was wondering if I could upgrade my Windows 7 32-bit into a 64-bit version? Can I just buy the OS through retail stores?

Another thing I wanted to ask is if is it possible to get my laptop cleaned from the inside-out? I think dust is accumulating on the inside resulting into faster heat build up that could damage parts inside.

Last question, is it possible to change my internal hard drive? I'm looking to upgrade into an SSD hard drive.

I'm from Manila anyways.

    Welcome aboard, Jay.

I found reviews of two different versions of your machine, and both of them have powerful 64 bit CPUs. I think that the Windows 7 version you have already is 64 bit. Go into Control Panel, System, and around the middle of the page it will have "System Type." That will tell you if you have a 64 or 32 bit computer. On the same page, near the top, it will tell you what version of Windows 7 you have.

You can carefully blow a burst of compressed air into the exit vent when your laptop is turned off to get out some dust. You can pay a small fee to a computer shop to open your rig and clean it.

Putting an SSD into a middle class laptop is possible, but you are going to have a problem re-installing your operating system, especially since you will need a new set of drivers. It can be done, but you're probably better off having a computer shop do it. My advice is that if you're not a big game player, the extra speed won't do you that much good.

The system says it's a Windows 7 Home Basic 32-bit.

This is an overview of my specs:

    Intel Core i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz

Pre-installed with 2 GB DDR3 RAM, then just recently added another 2GB. Total of 4GB RAM but only 3.07GB is usable.

Video Card is a NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M.

    Hope this helps!

The I5 is capable of running Win 7-64 (or 8 or 8.1) and 4GB of Ram is plenty but you will need a matched license key to activate it, the one that came with your machine won't work.

Depending on how you install you may also need a set of drivers for your machine from support.acer.com.

Jayvee, I'm surprised that the store would do that to you. Yes, you can run Windows 7 64 bit, but you will have to buy a complete installation DVD (you cannot upgrade). You will also lose your drivers, so be sure to have them downloaded onto a DVD or thumb drive first. And since this might not work, you ought to back up your original operating system in case you have to restore it.

Now, what will you get in return for all this? A more powerful operating system that will run faster and play more high-end games, but will do little more than you are already doing. That's assuming it works.

Cost of Windows 7 Home Premium from the Microsoft Store? $199

Cost of an entry -level laptop with Windows 8 64-bit installed? $200

I advise you to buy a new laptop.

Just contribuing more of Vince53 answer. Just make sure to buy the correct interface of the SSD, in laptop are common SATA 2 interface. Also, you can make a ''clonning process' from de HDD to de SSD as the SSD would be a pendrive. But if you're going to reformatting, all your current drivers won't work on 64bits OS.
