My kid uses ACER SWIFT1 SF114-33 laptop for school. Purchased in Aug 2021. The problem is the keyboard key "A" is not working on the laptop keyboard. Due to this not able to use the laptop at school. I have tried methods provided on the Acer website for keyboard issues - updated driver, disable filter keys, windows update etc. Also connected an external usb laptop on which the key "A" is working fine. Please can you help and let us know what could be the problem. All other keys are working fine. Thanks for your help.

Bad key or keyboard cable, if you already tried to clean underneath the key cap with a strip of thin plastic or firm paint brush while toggling the A key when the laptop is turned off, there is nothing left but using an external USB keyboard or the Windows On Screen Keyboard (OSK). BTW a new keyboard is not expensive ($15).

Thanks for your response. I have cleaned underneath the key but does not work. I am currently using a external USB keyboard. Wanted to know if this is a hardware issue and whether this hardware issue can be fixed with the help of service center and probable cost for the same?

It won't be the cable, since the key matrix affects four keys at once, typically. Most likely it's something stuck under the key or gunk from a liquid spill affecting the membranes under that key. As with almost all the thin and light laptops designs these days, the keyboard is integrated into the top case, so not really available separately. The laptop is just about at the right age though that spare parts are likely available from the secondary market. You just need to match the case color and language for the keyboard. A different model will have a different case design though, so don't fall into the trap where the model is almost the same…

Thank you for your response. I will try and clean underneath the key once again and will take it to the service center in case it does not work. Thanks again!
