Hi,

My PSU cannot provide enough power for my GPU anymore, and this causes immediate overheating of the GPU (85 Celsius) and shut down when I try to play some poorly optimized games. I confirmed GPU was fine by trying it on another desktop with a powerful PSU.

I am about to buy CORSAIR RMe RM750e 750 Watt 80+ Gold PCIe 5.0 but I am still not sure if this is compatible with my motherboard.

I read the threads below but wanted to know if there is any new information on this topic.

Thank you,

No, those third party PSUs will not work as shipped. They don't have the ATX12VO connectors, and provide a bunch of different voltages that aren't needed in a 12VO system. It doesn't sound like the PSU is you problem though, overheating will have other causes. Too much power could allow overheating, but too little will not.

    Problem solved:

It's embarrassing but my GPU overheating problem was solved when I replaced the GPU's thermal paste 🤦🏻‍♂️It's incredibly cool now. I didn't even change the thermal pads as they still looked fine.

I guess my GPU worked on another PC because the other PC has some advanced cooling, not because of a better PSU, etc.

I hope this helps someone who stumbles upon this thread. Please don't be lazy like me and clean the GPU and replace the paste first, before trying something more radical.

Thanks @billsey . But I will still try this unideal solution (new PSU + CoMeap 24-pin to 6-pin adapter) and share my results here.

I also cannot understand how a faulty PSU can cause overheating in my GPU but that's my deduction after trying the same GPU with a different PSU without a problem.

Note: Some mod changed my thread title, thanks :)

Let us know how that adapter works out. People have been looking for a good one for quite a long time and have had iffy luck.

    Results:
    - CoMeap 24-pin to 6-pin adapter works very well. My fans don't continue to work when I put my PC to sleep.

    - But my overheating and shutting down problem continues when I try unoptimized (?) games (Examples: Before We Leave, Descenders). It turns out the PSU wasn't to blame. I wonder what else could it be.

    Good job!

I'm sorry, but I must ask this. Since you are using the original CPU cooler, how's your CPU temp? I had a lowly i5-10400f in my PO3-620. Not only the CPU fan was loud as a jet engine, but it also caused the puny CPU to thermal throttle. Thankfully both problems were easy to fix with Noctua HSF.

CPU temp has never been a problem for me luckily. I guess it's a bit high but I don't remember a time it shut down because of it. I only run Firefox at the moment and it's around 45-55 celcius now according to HWinfo (I took a screenshot but it changes a lot, not stable), and the weather is 24 celsius today here in Istanbul and my windows are open. I use the original metal side panel.

My PC also was a bit loud recently but after I replaced the GPU's thermal paste it's very quiet now.

Good to hear, diagnosing thermal issues with the GPU can be tougher than with the CPU…

Correction: I was trying to say "hibernate" here not "sleep". I didn't test sleep.
