hello - i was looking to "upgrade" from my beloved swift-3 laptop.

newegg had this available so i purchased it:

Acer Swift Edge 16" 4K OLED Laptop - AMD Ryzen 7-7735U - Windows 11 Notebook 16GB RAM 1TB SSD

i notice its a bit heavier than my beloved swift-3 laptop.

my requirements are:
- 14-inch screen (yes smaller and lighter)
- Ryzen 5 or 7
- charges with USB-C, or at least has the option
- ships with win-11 (maybe this requirement is silly?)

any suggestions? i cant seem to find anything that has all these requirements. its SO tempting to return the new 16-inch, upgrade my beloved swift-3 to win-11, and call it a day.

The 16" OLED screen is a real 'nice to have' option, but it does give you a heavy base weight. Unless you are really committed to the AMD processors, you will find a lot more options using the Intel. Most, if not all, of the newer model charge via USB-C and ship with Windows 11. I don't know of any that ship with Windows 10 any longer, since that's going EOL soon. I like the new 15th gen Intel chips (Ultra models since they don't show generation any longer).

yeah i was afraid you were gonna say that…. having been a former employee of Intel, i really tend to gravitate toward all things AMD.

the 16 inch is very nice to have, right up until i am hauling it through an airport, and suddenly the little bit of extra weight mysteriously multiplies by a magnitude.

i hate to admit this, but one of the competitors seems to have just what i am looking for (😥)

    EDIT: Acer Swift X SFX14-42G-R607 — we may have a winner….

OOPS — i was "accidentally" comparing the weight of my wifes new acer Chromebook+ to my old swift-3.
    😣😣😣 — very embarrassing.

the new acer 16-inch swift is just about the same weight as my older swift-3.

EDIT: now wondering if that acer-x mentioned 20 minutes ago is even lighter than the acer 16 inch, with enough of a weight difference to justify returning the acer-16 and going with the new acer-x instead.

I would expect a 14" to be lighter than a 16", then screen itself would cause that, plus a bit more for the case.

i would have thought so too, but it turns out the two weigh just about the same. go figure.
