How much CHANGES can we make to make the Acer Aspire 5 A515-57 to be an ultimate gaming laptop?

Well recently, I made some changes to the RAM to have a better experience playing BeamNG.drive on my potato laptop (the model No. is in question), but I think it wasn't enough. I saw people like my colleagues replacing GPU in their laptops making it extremely powerful. So I was wondering if my laptop can make changes like CPU, GPU or even the motherboard with the least damage possible.

Thank you,

What is the exact model number of your Aspire 5, as saying an Aspire A515 means nothing, as there are many Acer Aspire A515 laptop models. Replacing a CPU/GPU in a laptops making it extremely powerful.can't be done very easely, changing a CPU/GPU on a laptop is financially unviable and you are limited to the motherboard and chip, you can't upgrade to any CPU or GPU, well you can change them to a more powerful one, but you have to have the expertise and the special tools to do this job if you can get the CPU or GPU that is compatible to the mobo. Best is to get an upper spec CPU and a better dedicated GPU mobo and replace your old mobo with that. Also and with laptops, you can’t just buy any CPU or GPU as laptops ar enot like desktops. Also, you can't just buy any high end mobo of a different model and fit that into your Aspire case, as it won’t fit into your Aspire A515-xx laptop case, laptops are not like desktops.

Intel does not sell bare bone CPUs or Nvidia or AMD sell bare bone GPUs, you can buy them used but these chips are very susceptible to being damaged or the whole chip is bent or its pins are damaged as when they are taken off an old mobo they usually get damaged or bent, CPUs and GPUs have hundreds of microscopic pins that have to be precisely soldered onto the mobo, and with an old CPU/GPU these mobo and chip pins have to be cleaned from their old solder and then re balled with a template with hundreds of solder balls and then expertly soldered onto the mobo, this is the same with the GPU which is a huge job and any technician will charge you more than a new and much better gaming laptop, its not worth doing. The easiest

    MoeenKD,

Be glad you have 32 GB of RAM. My (11th Gen) Aspire 5, (i-5) maxes out at 20 GB of RAM.

You can also install a better NVME Drive. My only NVME port is Gen 3. If your laptop has a Gen 4 NVME slot,

you can install a high performance NVME Drive. (Samsung 980 Pro, SK Hynix P-41(?) Platinum or similar.)

Beyond that you are limited in what changes you can make….

Let us know what you decide to do.

    Good luck!

If you have the Aspire 5 A515-57 laptop (which I also own and use with the same i5-1235U cpu and came with 16GB 2x 8GB DDR4-3200MHz CL22 type ram) your laptop came optioned with this laptop max ram of 32GB total at 2x 16GB DDR4-3200MHz CL22 type ram and that is what you have. This laptop is NOT a gaming laptop and you will never ever be able to option it up to be a full on gaming laptop, as this laptop hasn't got the dedicated gpu, the Aspire 5 A515-57G models that have the dedicated NVidia MX550 2GB gpu but even that gpu is NOT a full on gaming gpu so this laptop can't be optioned to gaming laptop. If you want a gAcer gaming laptop get either a Nitro or a the higher end Acer Predator Helios Neo PHN16-71 as that is one of the top Acer gaming laptops.

As your Aspire A515-57 has 32GB ram the only other thing you can do is to upgrade the JDD1 boor PCIe4x4 M.2 drive to a quicker drive like the Storage Subsystem that you can see below shows that this laptop boot M.2 JSSD1 slot is a PCIe4x4 type M.2 SSD drive and can have a realistic read/write speeds of a max 6950 MB/s (tested by an independent site) which is the latest and quickest drives,

If you want a realistic speed read/write benchmark of a 1TB, 2TB or a 4TB M.2 SSD drive, have a look at the Tom's Hardware SSD Benchmarks Hierarchy 2024 and chose the quickest M.2 drive for the capacity that you want. Good luck. Note: the above benchmark test has these drives as the quickest PCIe4x4 drives that you can easily buy, and they are: the 1TB Seagate Game Drive PS5 that has sequential speeds of 6,447 MB/s tested not just specified by its manufacturer or the 2TB Crucial T500 that has speeds of 6,904 MB/s tested not just specified by its manufacturer. Good luck and this should clarefy everything that you want to know about upgrading the Aspire A515-57 laptop as its a mid range gaming platform at maximum and NOT a full on gaming platform, so remember that!

Below is the Aspire 5 A515-57 storage subsystem specification, the highlighted JSSD1 is this laptops boot m.2 slot specification while the JSSD2 is this laptop slave M.2 drive specs which is at PCIe3x4 type drive.
