Display problem on Spin 713, display is messed up with hundreds horizontal lines with equal spacing

My Acer Spin 713 has performed well in general up to today, but suddenly, the display is messed up with hundreds of horizontal lines with equal spacing. Rebooting does not fix it. I have also checked for updates to OS and firmware, but nothing else.


How can I fix this?

(As potentially relevant information, when I did a screen grab, the image file looks like it has the the correct image data and not the horizontal lines visible on the screen itself)

    Do the artifacts show during the display of the splash screen when you first turn it on? That would tend to point to a hardware problem, since the OS isn't yet loaded at that point. How old is your Spin, and which model number is it? Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like CP713-xxx-xxxx.

    Yes there is something wrong immediately, although exactly what it looks like varies.
    The full model number is CP713-2W-77E8

    If the issue are present in the splash screen, that means it pretty much can't be an OS issue. If you are in warranty now would be the appropriate time to contact Acer support for warranty repair. If out of warranty the most likely cause is the cable that runs between the motherboard and display. It gets flexed each time the screen is moved, so every time you open or close the laptop. Here's the relevant info from the service guide:

    Changing that cable isn't for the faint of heart, but is doable if you are handy. You remove the 9 screws from the bottom case, disconnect the battery then disconnect the cable from the motherboard. At the same time, disconnect the G-Sensor cable that's on the other side, it also goes between the MB and display assembly. Remove four screws to release the hinges and pull the display portion of the laptop off. There are latches holding the bezel on the display, you gently pry those loose to get it off. I believe that will get you to the point where the whole cable is exposed. It goes both to the LCD and to the camera module. Remove it, replace with a new one, then reassemble in the reverse order you used to take it apart.
