Sudden BIG drop in fps and 100% gpu usage on my nitro AN517-54
Tinkerer
So, I've been suffering from this for a while now and I dont know what to do but my nitro just doesnt seem to be functioning well, I mean i'm getting 30 fps in The Forest with the low preset and 1280x720, but I saw some benchmarks and I was suposed to get like, 200fps or something like that, overwatch 2 i'm also playing at low quality & resolution and i'm getting between 20-40 fps. I tried unninstalling the nvidia driver with the DDU and nothing, I also followed the steps of the win 10/11 optimization and that didnt help much.
Does anybody know what the problem could be?
I have this acer nitro for 2 years now and it never got this bad in performance and my warranty has already expired, dont know what i'm able to do to fix it :(

GPU stays between 75-80 and cpu between 65-70
I temporarily fixed the problem by once again uninstalling the nvidia drivers with ddu and installing them again, but this time without internet connection (i messed this up last time). Worked just fine BUT the graphics card wasnt recognized by msi afterburner, but it was giving me the expected performance with some games. Then after some time I tried restarting to see if the gpu got recognized by msi and then it got recognized but my fps went back to being pretty low as it was before doing all this. And honestly I dont know what to do, how can I fix this without having to unninstall and install the driver everytime i turn my pc on0 -
Turn off fast starup and make sure windows not overwriting nvidia driver. If it us then use microsoft update hide to disable that driver update

How do I turn off both fast startup and make sure that it doesnt overwrite the driver, and I've never used microsoft update hide
0 -
1]-For Fast startup (You can do it right now)-
2]To solve this issue, you need to disable this feature by following the steps below (Do it now):
- Press Win+E to open the File Explorer
- Right-click on ‘This PC’ and go to Properties
- Click on Advanced System Settings and select the Hardware tab
- Click on Device Installation Settings
- Select ‘No, let me choose what to do’
- Check the option ‘Never install driver software from Windows Update’ and press ‘Save Changes‘ and then OK
3] To make sure windows doesn't overwrite (Do this if you face same problem again after doing above steps)-
Windows update may overwrite old nnvidia driver on new one. This will keep happening wherever you install new driver. It can cause many performance issuse
I recommend you to first pause windows update then download latest Nvidia control panel and Follow these steps-
1)Clean uninstall gpu driver using ddu with disconnected wifi and paused windows updates
DDU Uninstaller- https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
(Run ddu uninstaller in safe mode then select GPU under dropdown menu then select amd and click on clean and restart)2)Install Nvidia control panel
(Download latest recommended version)3)Download below tool to hide that gpu driver update that windows is Installing from link
https://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f22d5fdb-59cd-4275-8c95-1be17bf70b21/wushowhide.diagcab4)Open this tool hide every update name start from Nvidia Driver or display driver/adapter.
(If it doesn't show any update then try to connect wifi and try again)5)Restart your laptop and windows will not install nvidia driver anymore

So, I tried doing everything you said but when I started the tool to hide the update it didnt show gpu driver to hide, how can I fix this?

Also, step 1 was done before I even did anything and I couldnt do step 2 but it seems it was already ok:
I just really dont know why it doesnt show anything on step 3, theres no update whatsoever, and I wanted to ask something too. Is this happening because windows is auto updating my nvidia driver to a "wrong" one?
Because if my problem is solved by clean uninstalling on safe boot and installing the driver without internet connection, I dont know what it could possibly be if it isnt a problem with the gpu driver, what bugs me even more is why whenever I do this (clean uninstalling on safe boot and installing the driver without internet connection) it just doesnt recognize my gpu on msi afterburner but thats when my pc actually uses the gpu0 -
Try to connect Wifi and run widows hide

Then windows is not updating. Turning off Fast startup may already fixed your issue.

Nah, I restarted my pc soon after that and I got the same error once again. I'm currently on a cycle that goes like this:
1- I uninstall my gpu driver with DDU during safeboot
2- I install the gpu driver without internet connection (if theres internet connection it doesnt work)
3- Then my gpu works just fine for as long as I dont turn off my pc, because if I do turn it off then turn it on, it wont be working.
Also, msi doesnt recognize the gpu at all when it works0 -
Enable Developer settings in Destop on the top panel, then go to the single Developer setting in the control panel and either change the setting or switch back and forth and then click on Apply.
Then get the performance back.windows 10/11 optimization guide for gaming

But which setting? The one who allows performance counters to everyone?
That doesnt fix the issue that everything just resets whenever I restart my laptop, I mean, it works when I do what I told above but should I restart my pc whenever, the problem will return once again until I learn how to fix this.0 -
There's a bug in current Nvidia GPU may that is causing this- open Nvidia control panel as administrator and enabled developer mode and changed the option to allow all users access. However, if change back or overload the PC, the fps is low again, but it's enough to enjoy the game at the moment. So, you might have to do disable/enable this on every boot.

Is Nvidia going to do a GPU Driver update to fix the problem or not ?0 -
Probably if they find cause or Renew drivers completely. Chances are high but I don't expect it so soon.

Sorry for the delay but it just fixed on its own, I dont really know what repaired it, but the problem was that my gpu wasnt being recognized by anything, or if it was recognized it wasnt being used, at the time I made this post I had to restart on safe boot, uninstall the nvidia drivers and install the same I had before, all of this without wifi/internet acess, I dont know why but if I had access to the internet it didnt work. I really hope you're not having this problem anymore, it was a pain to me

Try uninstalling all bloatware, 3rd party AV apps, trial versions and browsers, only use Windows Defender and Edge. Get rid of junk files, clear your caches and old Windows update files with Windows Storage Sense, click on Temporary Bin at the left bottom of the Storage Bin icon. Upgrade your RAM.
