My Nitro 5 cannot detect the battery once I have started games

Hi all, my Nitro 5 (around 5 years old) recently has started to have a battery/ charging problem. The laptop runs well and is charging. But after I have started running some games such as Diablo 4, the laptop will automatically disable the charging function and enter battery mode. Even if I unplug and plug again, the laptop will not be able to detect it.

    Go to the elevated command prompt. Enter 'powercfg /batteryreport'.

    Then return to the desktop. Open file explorer. Then search for' battery-report.html' in the c:\windows\system32\ sub-folder.

    Double-click the html file to open it in the browser.

    Compare design full 100% charge capacity with its remaining full 100% charge capacity.

    Post screenshot of the first part of the report if possible.

    See the battery report (do the above) and see if the DESIGN CAPACITY to FULL CHARGE CAPACITY close or similar and what CYCLE COUNT your battery has. There isn’t a fixed threshold for a “bad” cycle count, as it depends on the specific battery and its usage. However, as a general guideline:

    If the cycle count is high and the design to charge capacities are way off, then replace the battery, as 5 year old battery needs replacing if its starting to not charge or your laptop charging rail is faulty and needs diagnosing. Good luck and hope this helps you out some more.

    After 5 years use that battery probably has a bad or even dead cell, I recommend replacing the battery. Google your full Nitro 5 model (like AN515-52) and browse for a compatible replacement battery (about $30) https://www.amazon.com/AN515-51-AN515-52-AN515-53-SF314-51-SF314-52/dp/B08XM241XX

    Sorry for taking so long, just had a very hectic period at work.

    Please see the attached. I assume that the battery has lost more than 25% of its designed capacity?

    How can I tell if I need to change the adapter as well?

    Your battery has better than average wear. Most batteries lose 10-20% capacity per year even if unused and sitting idle on a shelf. So only 25% loss in 5 years suggests it's still a very good battery.

    For high power load games and apps, the battery must sometimes help the charger meet the power demand. This is normal. During these times the battery is not charging and is actually draining even though plugged in. Once the battery level drops below about the 50% level, charging the battery will again take precedent over meeting gaming loads. Game performance will drop or frame stuttering will start. When that happens, it's time to stop gaming and allow the battery to charge back up to 100% for maximum game playing time. Then heavy gaming can begin again until the battery again drops below about the 50% level.

    Depending on your full Nitro 5 model number, higher power chargers may be available to increase the maximum play times.

    Thank you Jack and all that helped. I learnt something new here! The seriel number is NHQ5Bxxxxxxxxxxx.

    I suspect that it is the adapter that is the problem. In fact, I am currently using the adapter from my older acer laptop. The one that came with the Nitro 5 is completely dead.

    I am happy to purchase a new adapter but when I wrote to Acer SG, they replied that it is an old model so there is no adpater available. I wonder if I should just buy a new laptop (but it can run most of the things I need it to run, except getting a bit hot).

    Google the full Nitro5 model number (for example 'AN515-54') & 'power adapter' for vendors who ship to your location. Adapters are commodity items made by several different companies. The Nitro5 series usually have 90watt, 135watt & 180watt adapters available. The higher the power rating, the longer the play time you should get.
