Acer w700 - W510 keyboard compatibility?

Morning all,

First post here and I'd like to say I'm the proud owner of the Iconia W700 but I hate - with a passion - the keyboard that came with it (UK buyer so it came with the leather type case and keyboard, not the side clipping docking)

I don't like the fact I only have one angle in which I can use as a laptop, in most instances I have to smash the keys to make them press and when balanced on my knee I can see serious bowing.

Looking at the W510 it looks like the keyboard (product code NP.KBD11.00L) has a grip for the tablet to slide into as well as real keys and a trackpad.

Anyone know if the two would work? The dimensions of the w510 are 8.8mm. Everything I've read of the w700 suggest its 11.9mm yet the images shown have the American docking station clip thing on the side so I don't know if that encompasses it.

Cheers Smiley Happy

Doubt it since the W510 uses a proprietary docking connector. I use a leather (?) keyboard case I bought from Amazon originally for a G-Tab but now for my W510 and it allows for multiple viewing angles and has a foldout brace at the back like a picture frame. And was cheap. And works quite well.

What you could do is buy a "The Stump"  http://www.stumpstore.com/  : I bought mine in the U.K on ebay.uk(I'm in Canada) You can buy in White, Black, Neon colors etc

    And buy a Logitech K400 ( white edition ) perfect compact keyboard with a touch pad. ( it's a 40 dollars U.S/Canada)

Where the W700 has fulll size usb the mintunre usb dongle /wireless signal to Keyboard woudl be peferct

These would be perfect and color matching to your W700 - I bought them for my W510 and haven't looked back

My concern (perhaps unfounded) with the Stump is that it may introduce tortional stress into the tablet. There have been some complaints about screen loss on W3 when used with the BT keyboard which also fastens only at the bottom.

The Stump - who won awards for use and design the intended for the very same thing it was created!  And that is to be a phone pad, or tablet stand. I have used this with many different tablets and 2 versions of the Ipad and all are fine

and for the record those leather keyboard cases/stand combos make the back of the W510 very hot ( it gets ot as it is ) that much more heated as there is no ventlation /air flow between the back of the case and tablet. FACT!  It's been readyily report through out these fourms since the W510 came out and on mnay other forums on the web. You concerns about The Stump are unfounded and are without merit.  I can see if there was this world wide out cry or mass recall for said issue

Pretty sure The stump which is make a hih end heavy thick durable rubber compound that has different angles a tablet/pad.smart phone can be placed into postion will not cause any applied forced stress causing said device to contort or twist

    Morning gents,

    Thanks for the responses.

My apologies, I linked to the wrong keyboard code. I meant the NP.DCK11.00A

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Acer-NP-DCK11-00A-Keyboard-And-Battery-Dock-W510-/390659723042?pt=Other_Tablet_eReader_Accessories&hash=item5af5224f22

Which leather case are you talking about specifically?

Damreal the stump/keyboard combo look fantastic for a stationary environment, how have you coped with the keyboard on your lap?

    Thanks again

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Afunta-Universal-Tablet-Leather-Keyboard/dp/B00BRBQ208/ your choice of USB connector.

BTW AFAIK the NP.DCK11.00A is W510/511 only. Noting else has the special connector that is hidden in the slot.

    Cheers gents

I popped into my local PC world yesterday, they had the w510 in, I didn't notice the connectors for the keyboard, i thought it'd be wireless or bluetooth (why on earth isn't it wireless or bluetooth?)

I can see why the there's speculation the leather case would create heat problems, have you noticed any yourself Padgett?

I can see myself getting the stub as a temp thing and still look at getting a replacement case with keyboard.

    Cheers peeps.
