Is there a way to hard reset the W5 tablet without logging into Win8?

Random guess but try holding the power button down for ~5 full seconds. On PC's, tapping the power button soft shuts down, while holding it will do a hard power off.

    I should be more clear..

I need a factory restore.  I have had a customer return one of these with a password set but do not know the password.  I need to reload but from outside of Win8.

    Hi n4syth.

If you interrupt the boot process a couple of times do you get the option to Reset PC? I believe this only works on the 64GB SSD Model.

I am having the same problem-my mom put in her email address without the @ for her id on login screen and forgot her password. Only can access the email account from the tablet to recover/change it. She didn't set up the keyboard yet so can't use that. Can't find a usb to usb cable in any store to use desktop for discs, can't use my external disc drive because can't install the drivers because can't get passed the log in screen.. oh lord... ANY help???

Suspect you are going to need to boot from a recovery device. Unfortunately the CDs that are bundled with the w510 do not seem to work. ("either won't boot or are "invalid media")

If I do not hear back from Acer tomorrow I created a Win 8 USB drive and will try using that. Worst case I will install Win 8 Pro and add the Acer drivers.

See my original Bad Recovery Disk post for what I have already tried.

It is a good thing I really believe in what the W510 means else I would have dumped it last week. It is a game changer.
