Lost VGA output Aspire One

I lost my VGA output on my Aspire One D255 Windows 7 Ultimate.  The computer recognizes the external monitor which is a Dell 17" LCD - it shows up in "Devices and printers".  However I can't get the Acer video showing on the monitor.  I have tried every setting I can think of on the Acer with no luck.  Can a VGA port go bad?  Or did some setting change that I can't find?  I kave tried different cables with no luck and the monitor works fine on a different laptop.

Have you attempted to switch video with Fn+F5?

Fn + F5 Image: NV59C_F4.png Display toggle Switches the display output between internal LCD display, an external monitor, or both.

If the system is seeing the monitor, signal is passing between them.

Is the monitor listed in Device Manager when it is not connected?

Have you attempted to use another monitor with the netbook?

Yes, it is possible for any port to fail.

The monitor is a Dell E176FP and shows as such in "view devices and printers".  However it shows as a "Generic PnP monitor" in device manager and goes away when the monitor VGA cable is unplugged from the computer.  I have also tried a Samsung monitor with exact same results as the Dell.  Yes I have tried Fn+F5 many times but still nothing on the monitor.

The screen on the acer works fine.

Have you tried to reinstall the relevant driver?

ll does not have a driver for the E176FP on their website and I have not found a driver elsewhere.

Yes, I know about that driver but I am running Windows 7 and it is for XP and lower.  I will try it but not sure it will work.

If you cannot get the monitor driver installed, and no monitor works, it is possible that there is a problem with the port.

I would not know specifically what issue it may be, as it is detecting the monitors when connected, which indicates that communication is taking place across the port.
