Hi. The 2 USB (2.0) ports died suddenly a few days back (fortunately both the USB 3.0 ports are fine for now) and in the Device Manager under USB devices there are much fewer entries compared to before. I booted into Linux Mint but the ports weren't working. In the BIOS as well storage devices attached to the USB 2.0 ports weren't detected. So I guess they are truly borked. I used to plug a USB fan into them and a hub ( USB mouse and Wireless mouse). I had noticed that the fan used to draw 600mA watch exceeded the 500mA permitted over USB 2.0 but I thought it may not be an issue. I guess that's the culprit?

Anyway do the USB 2.0 ports reside on their own daughter board separate from the motherboard? If not I don't think there's any possibility of fixing them.

In the future if the USB 3.0 ports also fail I wonder how I will be able to reinstall Windows if it becomes necessary.
