Hi All,

I am new to this community.

My laptops charging port is loosley connected to the power chord.

Its been the same since the purchase, but owing to school work I

had to delay reporting the issue.

Now Acer wants me to ship it from Buffalo,NY to Temple,Texas.

This is risky since the Shipping company wont be liable for any damage

during the transit.

So is it recommended to ship ? Kindly suggest better way or alternative.

Thanks

When you say "chargeing port is loosely connected to the power cord", do you mean that when you plug the cable into the computer jack it is kind of jiggly loose after insertion? If so, my Aspire S3 does the same; I dont know if it is meaningful or not but after 2 months the cable no longer seems to be providing power to the computer nor to the battery.

I will be interested to see what if anything Acer does for you on this.

As to shipping, I recently shipped my Acer from Oregon to Temple Texas via UPS for $16 plus an extra $6 for $ 400 insurance; that covers any damage occurring to the shop; dont know what the situation is on return; they just sent it back in a different box via Fedex with no notation on insurance or not.

And by the way it still does not work.

    Thanks Igetfedup for the reply.

    Yes, thats the issue.

So in your case even after sending the unit to the service center the problem still persists.

What will you u do now to get it fixed.

I bought my laptop like 20 days ago, after your case I am hesitant to send it to Texas centre.

In my school their is repair centre, I am not sure if its authorised for Acer or not.

If I go there will they send it to Texas or fix it on their own.

Sorry, if the question is too naive, its my first experience towards a faulty laptop

    Thanks

    Vrushal,

To get free repair under 1 year warranty parts & labor, you must contact Acer by phone or Chat and obtain a repair authorization code and instructions on how & where to ship. If you take it to your school's center, they might do an easy fix (like sell you a new adapter cable) but if they open the box & re-solder a loose socket you will most likely have voided your warranty.

If you bought it 20 days ago, I would try taking it back to the store first. If that does not work, the smart thing to do I think is to grin and bear the Acer technical support system, which is gonna drive you nuts but may by some freaky accident actually fix your problem.

What I did to continue trying to get my S3 fixed is I did a whole new chat with Acer support, told them they sent it back to me unrepaired etc and customer service rep said he would send me a new adapter/cable (again). In other words, I am subjecting myself to continuing pain of trying to get it fixed the way we're supposed to, under warranty, through Acer.

Thankfully, I kept my old trustworthy Toshiba when I bought the Acer on a whim, so my personal work has not been interrupted just my nerves have been aggravated...

I'm not trying to be comical, but I worked for UPS in Chicago forty years ago. They had a carousal over half a mile long that rotated in an oval through the unloading section. The entire carousal had four bins installed at different heights, and after four feet, another set of bins came by. We tossed, threw, or shoved packages into those bins.

But if a packags was insured, it went to a large caged area where it was carried carefully by hand to wherever it was supposed to go.

    Thanks for your reply.

But from ur case it seems that I would be sending the laptop

& it wouldnt fix the issue. Moreover, my work will be stalled

since it is the only machine i have to complete my school work

    Thanks for the insurance tip.

So if i ship the laptop, it needs to be insured then.

    Vrushal,

Yes, and as I said in my first posting, it only cost me $6 for $400 insurance coverage. If you want more coverage I think it is only $2 per $100 additional at UPS. FedEx might even be cheaper; UPS store was just closest to me.  Also, in another forum thread, someone said they got a free shipping label from Acer customer service under warranty when they were given their authorization to send the unit in.  Maybe you just have to ask for one to get one !

They seem very erratic in their support. Which reminds me to tell you that after I shipped my notebook to Acer in Texas, I heard absolutely nothing for two weeks and had to yell at them to find my unit in their work shop. So, you had better steel yourself for possible further frustration...this may take months to resolve.
