Is my Predator PO5-640 able to upgrade to a 40 series?

Hello, I have a bone stock computer with the 3080, I7 12700F, 16GB ram. I was wondering if I was able to upgrade my computer to the upcoming 4070/4070TI or a 4080.

RTX 4080 needs a 750W and presumably the 4070 will need that or lower, so as long as it fits the case which it should it will work as the orion 5000 and 7000 have 800w PSUs, for a 4090 i would upgrade to a 1000w or 1200w.

So in simple terms, if I were to get a 4080, I don't need to upgrade my PSU, but for the 4080TI/higher, I would need to upgrade. But another question, is everything else on the computer compatible for a 4080?

Hello, I have the same system. PO5-640-UB12 to be exact. I also have an RTX 4080 Founders Edition but it is in another PC. The 4080 is really not that much larger than the 3080 in our Acer pc's. In fact length wise they are both 12 inches and they both take 3 expansion slots. The 800 watt power supply is probably just enough. However the 480 requires 3 8-pin connectors. The current 3080 only has 2. Unless there is a 3rd spare 8 pin connector, you will probably need to buy another power supply. I had this thing pretty much tore down when I replaced the cpu cooler but I didn't notice if there was an extra 8-pin connector or not.

Below are what Acer fits oem to the PO5-640 as a GPU and a PSU, with the 40 series NVidia cards this is what they specify and recommend "The RTX 4090 TGP is 450 W and the minimum recommended PSU is 850 W. The 4080 16GB TGP is 320 W with a minimum recommended power supply of 750W, and the minimum recommended power supply for the 4080 12GB is 700W." read this guide GeForce RTX 40 Series & Power Specifications so really the PSU that the PO5-640 has is quite adequate for the 4080.

Yes, you can likely upgrade to the 40 series GPUs, just be aware of the power requirements. Your PO5-640 has an 800W supply and some of the higher end GPUs want more than that. It's easy enough to swap out to a 1000W instead though, just costs money...

I upgraded mine. But had to upgrade the PSU to 1000W as the current PSU only has 2 x 8 pin PCIE.
