I have a Nitro AN515-47, RTX 3050 Model and I'm stumped.
2 weeks ago or so, there were no updates, no changes, I just randomly popped open my laptop and suddenly my 3.5mm Headset is no longer being seen as a Headset with a Microphone. It's being seen as Headphones. I checked my history, no changes were made, just randomly overnight the 3.5mm Jack stopped seeing it as a headset.
So I did as any normal person would do.
• Checked for Windows Updates
• Uninstalled the Realtek Audio Console/Driver and Reinstalled the Driver as per the
https://www.acer.com/ca-en/support/product-support/AN515-47/downloads
driver page.
- Driver provides "no driver found" error after rebooting twice.
- Due to this above, Console cannot be reinstalled as Install_UWP won't install, error 740, Setup_APP won't install, error -1051262696 and Install_UWP_RtkUWP won't install, error Error: 0xc1570118 / DISM failed. No operation was performed. For more information, review the log file.
• I've even installed all the most recent update/driver files from the link above and still nothing.
• Even went out of my way and uninstall all previous C++ installations, then reinstalled the latest one found on
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170#visual-studio-2015-2017-2019-and-2022
• Restarted multiple times.
• Even installed the Windows Insider Beta Preview (Not Dev or Canary).
• Tried headset with another device, works fine. PS5 and Switch both recognize it so it's not a band issue. Just seems to be a computer situation.
• Checked and verified no changes to programs or settings were made recently including any settings being changed for the Realtek Console which I believe is the issue.
The only other 2 ideas that come to mind (begrudgingly) that I can think of are:
- It's a Windows OS issue, and that forces me to do a system reinstall which I really don't want to have to do because setting everything back up would be a major pain in the a-.
- It's a hardware issue, which I have no way of finding out if it is because the system sees that something is plugged in, and even sees that it's a set of headphones, but I have no way of finding out if the third band is being ignored. This would most likely be a last resort situation, bringing it to a PC Repair shop.
I have a strong suspicion that it's because for some reason the headset is hard-coded by the OS as a "Headphones" setting because of the Realtek Console (which would normally pop up whenever I plugged the headset in) but ever since a few weeks ago, it stopped prompting me with that pop-up, which is when it started only seeing it as Headphones.
I'm not sure if anyone else has any other ideas, so before I do an OS Reinstall, I thought I'd engage the community to see if anyone else had this issue with any other Acer products or just this product in general.
tl;dr: Nitro AN515-47, Headset is only being recognized as Headphones. Tried updating literally everything, trying to avoid reinstalling the entire OS and/or bringing it to a PC Repair shop to check the 3.5mm port. After uninstalling realtek driver/console, driver no longer wants to be installed (error after reboot that "no driver found in driver" and console refuses to install until the driver is installed.
Any other realistic (non-troll) ideas would be fantastic and appreciated.
