What do the indicator lights say when you plug in the charger? If the battery level drops below a threshold it will turn off charging to keep the battery from catching on fire, and when that happens you have to replace the battery.

There are a couple of ways that the engineers can design a laptop… One uses the charger only to charge the battery, and runs the motherboard off the battery at all times. Another is to run the motherboard off the charger when available and only use the battery when the charger is not connected. We have no good way to tell which way they designed a laptop short of testing. It sounds like on yours it may be designed the second way. The blue light is supposed to indicate a full battery and show amber during charging.

The indicator light is a steady blue, I assume it means battery is charging but I left it plugged in overnight and the pc still is not powering up

If I unplug/disconnect the internal battery and connect the charger should the pc power up ( It does not), or you need the battery for it to power up? Thanks

left the chromebook alone for a couple of weeks and today finally I got back to it.

Opened the back and unplugged the Battery. Plugged the charger and tried to power on and it come up to my surprise. Updated the OS, Powered it Off and ON all seems to work fine.

Plugged the battery back on and again it would not Power ON with the charger connected or not.

Unplug the battery again, connect the charger and it is working fine.

Decided to order a new Battery from Power Source Technology Co., Ltd. (IEPowerdepot.com) for $68.99, the pic on the side looks exact as the one in my PC.

Hope to get it before Xmas.

Finally got my new battery, installed it, once I opened the lid it booted up. Updated chrome to the latest release but after a couple of minutes the power went off and it would not power up again. Unplugged the battery, plugged the charger in and when I opened the lid it boots up.

When I power it off it will not Power on/ Boot up using the power switch but it will if I close the lid then open it again.

Plugged the battery back in and once I opened the lid it Boot up again. Closed the lid without shutting it down, half an hr later open the lid and it boot up. Spend about an hour on it trying to get myself familiar with it and then I decided to log off and as soon as I did, it shut down. Now it will not power on / boot up with or without battery or charger plugged in.

With battery connected (90% charged, as I saw while it worked) the indicator light, on the power button, is off and solid blue blue when I plug in the charger.

With battery disconnected the light is off and orange when I plug in the charger.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Is the battery an exact match to the original Acer battery? Just size and mounting brackets isn't enough for it to be the same. It sounds like it's either running a different voltage or reporting events differently… Here are the two batteries Acer used, they are identical other than coming from different vendors:
