w3-810 display driver questions (DirectX and more)

Hi All,

I just purchased a w3-810 and am enjoying it.  I installed Civ 5 and want to use Windows 8 mode.   When ever I try, it crashes.  I think I've found the problem but would like some verification.

The graphics driver for the Atom z2760 is only capable of directx 9.3 even though the chip is advertised as compatible with directx 10.1.

Is there or will there be a graphics driver that will be directx 10.1 compliant?

Has anyone been able to install the Windows 7 graphics drivers?  I've tried and failed even when I've used bcedit commands.

Does anyone else play Civ 5 on this tablet?  Are there any tweaks or settings that can improve game play?

TIA,

Both my W3 and W510 are reporting Directx 11 (DXDIAG).

    As does my W700.

Ok.  Open dxdiag, click on the display tab.  On the right side it reports, "Feature Levels: 9.3, 9.2, 9.1"

OK, this is what you are talking about:

    Native Mode: 1920 x 1080(p) (60.000Hz)
            Output Type: HDMI
            Driver Name: igdumd32.dll
    Driver File Version: 9.14.0003.1158 (English)
         Driver Version: 9.14.3.1158
            DDI Version: 9Ex
         Feature Levels: 9.3,9.2,9.1

I have heard of an .1160 driver but this seems to be the most recent. Not an Acer issue though, the driver would come from Intel.

Thanks for the input.  But according to this link http://communities.intel.com/message/202668 one must get the driver from the computer manufacturer, not Intel Smiley Sad

Acer, any input?  Any help?  I love the full windows 8 tablet concept, and love the tablet itself.  I'm just looking for some help.

More phun. Last weekend I bought a USB BluRay player but so far have been unable to get the bundled Cyberlink PowerDVD to play a BluRay. Regular DVDs are fine now that I have the Windows 8 patch.

However when I try to play a BlueRay (any of several) I get "error 0012" display driver not compatible. When I run the diagnostocs the W510 (W3 acts the same) connected to an HDCP compliant TV gives the following failures:

Graphics Card : Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator Unknown
Graphics Card Driver : 9.14.3.1103 Not ready
Hardware Dual-Video Decoding Capability for H.264 : None
Hardware Dual-Video Decoding Capability for MPEG-2 : None
Hardware Dual-Video Decoding Capability for VC-1 : None

    Tinkerer

I linked to an updated driver pack on the other Windows 8.1 RTM which contains a newer GFX driver here. This was from Station-Drivers and is for the Z2760 chipset.

    Script Kiddies

I also put in a ticket to Acer about a display driver compatible with BlueRay. That generated a response very quickly:

"To get the compatible BluRay driver, I request you to contact Microsoft support for assistance."

'... contact our “Answersby” team who are specialists in providing resolution on this issue.. fee-based support.'

jpearn, thank you.  I'm downloading the driver now to see if it helps.

padgett, thanks for sharing the issue.  I'm currious to see if PowerDVD uses directx features higher than 9.3.  Actually, I just checked and it needs 9.0.  But I did some research and this page http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/4729.page says to change an advanced setting (which I doubt will work).  And this page http://www.computershopper.com/components/howto/how-to-install-a-blu-ray-burner says to uninstall and reinstall the graphics driver.

    Take care,

The advanced setting is inside PowerDVD (have v10 with the Windows 8 update) "settings > Blu Ray > Advanced > Allow Power DVD to automatically disable windows Aero to optimize Blu Ray Disc Playback " and it is already set on mine.

What gets me is that Intel says see Acer, Acer says see Micosoft (?!?) and no-one seems to care about the missing pieces:

ps also tried the CCCP  & K-Lite codexes; PowerDVD 10, Media Player Classic and VLC players, everything is pointing to a deficient driver, nothing can play a BluRay disk. I am starting to think it is a deficiency in Clover Trail.

Problem is that other than the W3 and W510, the only devices I have with HDMI out are Android or iOS.
