I attempted sending firmware update via my usb port on the new Acer swift x 14 and the computer rebooted. The screen changed for a moment, barely could read anything it before the reboot. I could see what appeared a QR code and see the word error but that was it since it was less than a second before the reboot.

I tried a second time writing from my USB port and once again it error after a minute or less and gave the error screen for just a milisecond before rebooting. The error screen was not a Microsoft screen; appeared to be something Acer generated.

I look at the event log and saw this.

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000d1 (0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000001, 0xfffff803649071c9). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: c6d2c746-a670-4ff8-94ad-58ea656027b4.

Does anyone have a clue why this happens when I try to use the USB ports? ITs critical for me to have access in these serial ports.

This looks to be a RAM issue, Have you ever opened this laptop?

These two times occurred while using the USB port. It hasn't occurred any other time.

Acts like a driver issue, clocking or possibly issues with the IO controller.

I was a Dell certified tech years ago and did repairs on desktop as required. I never worked on a laptop but it does not scare me.

Are you an Acer Tech support employee? I would not do anything that would jeopardize my warranty.

No, Im not I wish i was though, anyways that Qr code can lead to your anwser, as well as the posible IO controller issue. also do you know what the update was about?

The screen with the QR code was soooo brief. I have to see if Acer keeps a log of errors on the laptop.

The main purpose for getting this laptop was two fold, the OLED screen to better see the high 10bit images I capture and to control my telescope via three USB ports, two for cameras the other for the motor mount. Without reliable USB operation, this laptop would be useless.

Hmm. try updating or reinstalling the usb controller. or reinstalling windows altogether (before trying this BACKUP EVERYTHING!)

The memory dump should tell you just what failed that caused the crash. It doesn't look like an Acer app that generated the issue since the bugcheck message is what you expect to see when something crashes hard. My guess is it's either something trying to execute from the flash drive or a corrupt driver trying to handle the data transfer.
