Good morning everyone
I have an Acer EX2540 that won't turn on. In practice, when I connect the power supply, the steady orange battery light turns on and when I press the power button the light starts to flash and does not turn on. I tried disconnecting everything, even the monitor, I also disconnected the battery but without the battery it doesn't turn on any LEDs nor does the notebook turn on. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be?? A thousand thanks.

Have you replaced the battery recently, this model is 5-6 years old and the battery should be near its end. Not every laptop can boot without a battery but it could also be the power adapter. See if you can borrow an adapter that fits your laptop (same Watt) and try to boot, if the same results replace the battery only. There are many online shops that sell batteries for your model, this one is in the U.K.:

  • Hi @William990 some equipment has the battery connected in a series circuit instead of parallel, this is the reason why your equipment does not turn on with the charger. If you disconnect the battery, there is no longer continuity of current to the equipment.

What you are saying can be caused by three factors:

    • Battery in poor condition, probably an internal electrical short, since it is connected in series as I mentioned before, it does not allow the charger to power the equipment.

-Charger in poor condition, it is unlikely, but it can happen. If you try another charger, please be very careful, not only the voltage and amperes are important, if the connector is a jack type, you must be careful that the polarity is the same or it may cause damage to the current input of the charger. plate.

-That there is an internal problem in the internal charging circuit, also unlikely, but it can occur.

Personally, I recommend in these cases, if the equipment is no longer under warranty, to take it to a technical service to verify it.
Logically, if you still have a warranty, contact Acer.

    Thank you.
    All the best.

Thank you all for the answers. I changed the power supply but the result is still the same I think all I have left is to try to change the battery even if a friend with the same model whose battery no longer charges because it is now exhausted the notebook turns on same. I wanted to be sure before changing the battery so as not to waste money needlessly. Thanks again I will do further tests and keep you updated.

One last question, is it possible to short circuit the battery pins in order to close the circuit and make it turn on even without the battery??

  • I suppose so, but we would have to know exactly how to close the series circuit, but I don't know that information, it is probably in the electronic manual to which I don't have access.
In the manual that I can see there is only a block diagram.

    Thank you.
    All the best.

Good evening and sorry for the delay. I finally changed the battery and now the orange LED stays steady and doesn't flash even when I press the power button but unfortunately the PC still doesn't turn on. I honestly don't know what else to try.

  • I think the equipment should be checked by a technical service, anyway, wait for more answers that may help you.

There are two status lights. Using this diagram:

Which light is on and amber? If it's the battery indicator, leave the charger connected and wait until it turns blue.
