Acer W510 HDMI not working after spending 2hrs!

I have been trying to connect W510 to a Toshiba LCD TV through a good HDMI cable.

I played with win8 control panel / display / external (extend/display 1/display 2/clone).

The only two ways I can get any win8 content projected to the TV

1) display 2 only, display on TV, but with all little color pixels, apparently from the video output problem.

2) extended, but the second desktop on the TV is not even full screen. Plus, in extended mode, youtube video playback is complete black on both desktops.

Please help with this problem. How would I expect that getting HDMI to work with W510 and a recent flat TV could be THIS hard!

Thanks!

It sounds like you have it partially working, but there are some items not mentioned.

What is the model of the TV and what are its supported resolutions?

What is the resolution that you are sending to the TV?

What video output problem. I have used with both a VGA adapter and with an HDMI cable to a TV but have to be carful not to use 1920x1080 unless you know the TV can support - I have one that can only handle 1280x720, anything more gives either garbage or a black screen (lets not go into what happens if the TV is set for 3D, it is painful).

The TV is LCD HDTV TOSHIBA 40E200U 1080P R.

Once plugged in, I can hardly even see the setting. Could you suggest the best way to try this?

Besides, when the extended desktop works, it doesn't cover the whole TV. I thought Acer+Win8 would make these things much easier than older Win laptops ....

    Thanks.

First I would connect the TV then open desktop, right click in a blank area, select "screen resolution" and click on "detect". What does it find as the second monitor ?

Thanks. I finally got it to work by changing screen resolution etc.

Btw, how do I get the Netflix app to display in the "extended second monitor" (i.e. TV) ? I can move browsers to the second monitor just fine.

Another problem is that sometimes I see a few bright green pixels on the TV (goes away with TV program, so probably related to HDMI signal from W510).

    Thanks.

Only way that I have found is to turn the tablet monitor off and put everything on the "Second Monitor". Is best to use with a mouse since the TV does not have a touch scream.
