Travelmate P453-M will not recognize any ssds

I am interested in upgrading my travelmate P453-M with an ssd, but the BIOS does not recognize any of the ssd models I have tried (OCZ, Team or Corsair).

Is this particular BIOS (Insyde) locked to hdds only? I have updated it to the latest version (2.14) and still have the same problem.

Are you using GPT or MBR on these SSDs?

As you have a v2 BIOS, you may need to change the BIOS from UEFI to Legacy to see the drives.

I have the exact same issue with my new P453-MG. BIOS is v2.14

The BIOS is set to legacy but my SSD is not recognized.

Yes, neither UEFI or Legacy BIOS recognizes the drives.

Should I try formatting the SSD as GPT?

No luck unfortunately. I have re-initialised the drive as GPT and it is still not recognized by the BIOS in UEFI mode.

The only information I'm able to provide is the specification of what we ship in the system.

Drives for the TravelMate P453-M are:

    7.0 / 9.5 mm

    5400 / 7200 rpm

    SATA 3.0

    320 / 500 GB

Would it be possible to downgrade the BIOS from version 2 to version 1?

No, it would not be possible.

v1 BIOS is for systems that shipped with Windows 7.

v2 UEFI is for systems that shipped with WIndows 8.

    They are not cross-flashable.

I've also tested a Samsung 840 SSD and still no luck, BIOS won't recognize it.

I wonder why the description about the P453 says "and available solid state drives provide quicker data access." while there is just no SSD recognized by the notebook/BIOS.

Very disappointing! My mail to the Acer support about this was answered with "We have not tested any SSDs with this notebook" ...

Did anybody figure out why this was happening? I just bought a Samsung SSD for my P453-M and I can't boot into it.

Also, when I try to enter the BIOS it prompts for a password - despite me never setting a BIOS password.

Have you tried downloading the drivers from the manufacturer?

Ok first do you mean it won't boot from the SSD or Windows does not recognise it atol ? I have a Samsung 840 and to recognise it as a extra drive is no problem but to boot from it you need both a GPT and to have the microsoft signature blocks loaded (e.g. boot from a Windows 8 install disk and have the install process format the drive & install Windoze. Can also do if can boot a CD/DVD into "Repair" but is complicated.

I am experiencing the same issue and have tried a number of SSD. My laptop is a Windows 7 version so has the latest version of bios 1.07. The issue really seems bios related as the laptop will pick up the all of the SSD drives when i first plug it in after a normal HDD has been connected but after a restart suddenly the bios reports no hard drive connected. Regardless of whether the bios is set to Legacy or UEFI the same issue persists with the laptop sometimes detecting the SSD and then not. An additional issue that seems to crop up randomly with a SSD connected is the laptop graphics seem to go haywire and not display on the laptop screen properly (seems to be dimmed to the extent where you cannot see what is displayed) and i have to connect an external screen to see anything. When this occurs i have to switch between UEFI and Legacy to get the graphics to return to normal, as when this occurs the GOP returns a value of 'unknown'
