I needed to replace my original SATA hard drive on this laptop. When I went to initialize the drive for use the computer can't see it. When I check my bios there is no option for SATA as in newer models. I there a fix for this or an updated bios that will support my laptop?

Boy, that one is an oldie. Does yours still have XP on it, or a newer OS? What size is the drive you are putting in? What size was the old one?

It had xp on it but I bought it around the time when Win 7 was being put on that series as well. I intended to put Win 7 back on it. I don't need to do anything extreme with the laptop so Win 7 would do. The bios does not have a VMD option on it. The drive I wanted to use is only 500 GB and I could make more than one partition if necessary. The old drive was only 80 GB.

OK, 500GB should be small enough to be recognized. At that age there wouldn't have been VMD or iRST support, those are both newer technologies. Can you still boot from the install CD for Windows 7? The laptop might be too old to boot from USB…
