Could you please post the full model name of the laptop, like A5xx-xx, Acer doesn't have this number, you may have to contact Asus forums or Customer support.
This asus model is compatible with nvme ssds. The 980 evo has a third-generation version and a fourth-generation version. Fourth generation SSDs are backwards compatible. But I advise contacting asus support for more details: https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/Asus-Q524UQ/34213

Yes, the Q524U models are ASUS, not Acer.
The Q524U laptop, which its full model number is the Asus Q524UQ laptop is and NOT an Acer laptop, you have the wrong community🤣get onto the Asus community if there is one as good as the Acer community, nest time buy Acer.
