As the title say: Does the subject machine have upgradeable RAM? If so, one slot (with 8GB soldered) or two? If two, what is the maximum RAM this machine will recognize?

(Note to Acer store webmaster: Shouldn't this info be noted on the product page?)

Thanks,

Barry

    Hi,

Download and install CPU-z, run it and find out the memory combination in your laptop, if you have one 8GB module installed, you can buy another 8GB module with same specs and install to upgrade to 16GB total memory.

If you want to upgrade to 32GB, you can buy 2x16GB DDR4 3200MHz modules and install, avoid buying any RAM sticks with XMP profile or Automatic overclocking features.

Appreciate your trying to answer my question but, as I don't yet own the Acer in question, your suggestion (though accurate) doesn't help me. One would think Acer would provide this information in -some- sort of documentation, either at the store webpage for this product or in the support documentation (User Guide would be a good suggestion but tsk it's not there.

With all due respect rumplestiltskin Acer does not encourage any user(s) to open laptops and upgrade ram especially when their products are under Acer warranty, hence and why they don't officially plaster and/or state the ram or M.2 SSD or for that matter cpu upgrades in desktops.

If you want to upgrade your ram and you are computer savvy then you can do so at your own risk, as in some locations Acer does put warranty stickers so that their products are not opened and/or tampered with as and from experience many brand new laptops have been damaged by users who have no idea what they are doing and that is the reason Acer doesn't officially state any upgrades as then the user can come back at Acer for warranty costs of any damage.

You are lucky that Acer has this community where we as ranked members have the service guide information and are voluntarily passing on this information to you in good faith for the Acer Aspire A514-56GM-5932 from its SG to you😁.

This laptop comes in configurations with 4GB and 8GB soldered to the motherboard, so you have one slot to match the soldered DDR4 if you want Dual Channel mode.

As Steven commented above to find out what DDR is soldered run CPU-Z or run the WMIC command:
    wmic memorychip list full

As one ram module is already soldered in place and the second is in a dimm slot (and presumably matched properly for dual-channel mode), I'll just leave it at 16gb when I buy it (soon, hopefully). I'm not a gamer but the dedicated GPU should make it fairly speedy for photo editing with apps that use the GPU. I'll offload photos to my desktop periodically.

Thank you for the valuable info.

"lucky"? I'm sure you didn't mean that to sound like it reads. 😱🤣 Acer is lucky customers care enough to post answers to potential customers instead of the latter just getting frustrated and moving on to another vendor. I do appreciate assistance in a forum; you and others here should be rewarded by Acer for doing their job for them.

I just found another question about this product that seems to be pointing in two directions.

The store webpage shows a fingerprint reader at the upper left of the touchpad but says nothing one way or the other in its specs. The Amazon product page not only doesn't mention a fingerprint reader but the photos show the reader is actually missing from the product.

So, if I may be inquisitive once again, what's the story? Thanks.

Edit: Found a separate tech specs page here: https://tinyurl.com/m65kz3y7 and it shows the reader on the touchpad but specifically says "no reader". I'm so confused….
