M5-581T external monitor

I have been trying to attach my Benq fp222w external monitor to this laptop with an HDMI cable.  When I do there is no option to select the native resolution of the monitor.  If I manually type in the native resolution of the monitor the image looks awful and is stretched beyond the dimensions of the monitor.  I can manually change the aspect ratio until the image fits within the dimensions of the monitor, but still the resulting image is pretty bad.  The image looked a lot better when I used an old Windows xp laptop with a VGA cable.  The intel driver correctly recognizes the brand and model of the monitor, but does not give an option for the correct resolution of the monitor.  I thought I could use an Windows XP driver for the monitor, but since it is not digitally signed I am unable to use it.  I have tried to turn off the feature that requires digitally signed drivers under the advanced startup options, but the computer will not let me select any of the advanced startup options and simply freezes before shutting down after ~1 min.  In short, I cannot select the correct resolution of my monitor and I cannot change advanced startup options.  Acer support has yet to come up with a solution for either.

ok do this.. go to notifications, right click a little blue monitor icon known as Intel Control Panel. From there click properties. Select Advance Mode, then click Ok. Now you want to look on your right, where it says Scaling. Scroll Down in the box, then click Manual, and ajust accordingly. Hope I helped
