The Aspire 3 A315-42G is compatible with M.2 PCIe3x2 type drives and the SAMSUNG 970 EVO Plus SSD 500GB NVMe M.2 Internal Solid State Drive w/ V-NAND Technology is a PCIe3x4 high end M.2 SSD drive that is really wasted in your laptop, as it will never ever utilize this drives read/write max speeds. You would be much better off buying a lower grade M.2 drive like a standard Samsung M.2 PCIe3x4 or a WD Blue M.2 SSD like the WD SN530 M.2 SSD drive that is more compatible to the PCIe3x2 read/write speeds, as they are much cheaper and will work much better with your AN515-42G laptop.
Here are some of the M.2 PCIe3x2 drives that Acer fitted to this laptop: Btw, you can fit 1TB and 2TB or higher M.2 drives, as you are not restricted to 256GB and 512GB M.2 SSD drives like shown below. As the 2TB limit is for MBR/Legacy format and 2TB and above is for the GUID (GPT) type disk format.

You probably checked this older thread already:
Crucial only lists the 2.5" Sata SSDs compatible for your model, you may reconsider and buy the 2.5" SATA-3, 870 EVO V-NAND from Samsung instead. If you don't have an HDD in your laptop you will need an HDD upgrade kit (bracket. cable and screws).
